Hi
I am off to Kalamaki in a couple of weeks. I havent been abroad for a few years and was discussing with my friend last night whether to take travellers cheques or just withdraw cash in resort.
What do you all do?
I know an ATM exists in Kalamaki but does it always work?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

There are also at least 3 ATMs in Laganas which is about 2km away from Kalamaki.

I haven't used a credit card abroad for many years after being stung for charges in Italy many years ago.. For the last few years i have used my Nationwide ATM card from a basic Nationwide account and get a great exchange rate and no charges. Even ATM machines outside supermarkets and one that's near the main crossroads in Laganas never charged any withdrawal fee with a Nationwide card.
Well worth opening an account just for holiday funds..
Basic bank account
Nationwide also offer a basic bank account, which is suitable for those who want access to a simple account offering a range of features and benefits:
* pay money in and set up regular payments like standing orders and Direct Debits - both in and out
* a cash card which enables you to withdraw money and check your balance at any of our branches, cash machines and any Post Office branch
* manage your money over the Internet
* the basic bank account does not offer an overdraft, a cheque book or a debit or credit card

I personally would split my holiday funds and use some €uros + travellers cheques and have the cards to fall back on.. for bigger spends like car hire etc..
Paul..
I'd agree....we take most of our money in Euros and then use cards as a back up!
I was in Kalamaki last year and the ATM isn't brilliant. I always take Sterling and change it in the supermarkets you get a great rate. And of course always get a safety deposit box to keep your money in.
What rate am I likely to get in the resort of Tsilivi at the moment and where is the best place to change the sterling notes ?
