So Sanji.....The Police don't allow anyone to sleep overnight on the beach?

No I said it is illegal to sleep on the beach at night, so, don't put words in my mouth and did I mention Playa D'en Bossa.?

This is not quite the same in Ibiza, the island has long been the playground of Spain's wealthy, long before the clubs grew so large, and it was this influence of wealthy Spaniards from the mainland buying up properties that gave Ibiza this 'Holiday Home' effect

Who exactly were these "wealthy" Spaniards.?
As far as I know, there were no wealthy Spaniards only General Franco and members of his military junta and even the non tolerant Franco was not interested in Ibiza apart from making them change their language from Catalan Eiwisenc to Castellano, he allowed hippies and "drop outs" to party with their "love ins" and use soft drugs, yet at the same time forbid the wearing of a bikini on mainland Spain.
The British jet set put Ibiza on the map, people like Freddie Mercury, Mick Jagger and Pink Floyd who had property built there, I say built because Ibiza was mainly an agricultural island with run down Fincas.
Writers from Europe found solitude in Ibiza and the majority of the property was bought by Brits and Germans, not the Spanish the Spanish after the death of Franco in 1975 and the wealth being distributed amongst the population (who were previously kept as peasants) were more interested in buying property in the interior of Spain like in the Capital or down on the "Costas" such as the Costa del Sol where all the celebrities hung out like Sean Connery, Elizabeth Taylor, Rod Stewart, Antonio Banderas and even King Juan Carlos himself who alternated between Mallorca and Marbella thus making Marbella what it is today....they saw the property market on the Costa's for investment and the potential for leasing out.

In the late 80's/early 90's when the drugs and music arrived, Ibiza fell out of favour with the European wacky jet set and the property prices started to rocket as more and more Europeans saw an alternative to the already commercialised Mallorca.

Yes, so did I, but you will see that it went off topic on page one with some sweeping statements and misinformation.

This thread is now way off topic :offtop

Let's get it back on topic by repeating the original question.

If you wish to discuss other issues please do so in a different thread as it's not fair on leemegan for her thread to be hijacked.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hiya all! I'm off to Ibiza for the first 2 weeks in October, staying in St Eulalia at the Sirenis Club Siesta Hotel. I was told that Ibiza itself isn't the biggest of islands, so i was just wondering how easy and far it is to travel about the island for day trips? I would love to go to San Antonio especially. Is it far to visit from where I am staying? Any replies on my questions would be very much appreciated and also any comments about the hotel would be most grateful.

Thanks :wave

there is a regular bus from santa eulalia (behind the town hall) to san antonio - (it stops in ibiza town) - it takes approx 30-40 mins depending on the traffic and whether the tunnel at san rafael will be finished ;)
