We stayed in this new Travelodge on a saver break and prepaid for Breakfast by purchasing online at a discount.
What a shame that the cleaning of the rooms is not up to scratch.
When we got into our room we found that there was soiling in the toilet pan !! Enough to put you off your evening meal I can tell you. We told the the receptionist who apologised and said that they would come up to see to it. Well 2 hours later I had to go down again and remind them.
Eventually it was sorted but our room was above the kitchen and back door so we had the smell of curry and ciggies ( from the staff breaks) wafting up. As it was sweltering we had the window open but millions of mosquitos made their way in. They were dispatched with the menu card although the white walls were redesigned a touch We were awoken the next morning by the sound from the breakers yard next door !!
We had booked for 2 days and were going to leave early forgoing the money paid for the second night and the breakfast but they offered to move us to a different room so we decided to accept.
Well the room was indeed quieter but....there was a bloody great tide mark round the bath !!
It was late by now on the second evening and Mr hbrac said to forget it and have a shower instead of a bath which I did.
The cleaning is apparently contracted out and when I asked the cleaners for more towels nobody could speak English. I shouldn't think they receive much per hour.
The breakfast was adequate though staff were a bit thin on the ground and were on the whole disinterested. We tried to get a hot meal on the first evening but they didn't have what I wanted on the menu so we went to the local 24 hour Tesco and brought back sandwiches.
To add insult to injury, the car park is privately owned so you have to pay £3 per day to park there.
We had stopped using the Travelodge some time ago due to problems we had experienced with the cleanliness of the place and I had written a couple of complaints. However I don't want to appear a serial complainant so I am now voting with my feet.
We have not used one for a little while - the various reviews on several sites have put me off.
Premier Travel Inn seem to be a lot better but they are more expensive.
Pippa
I've given up on Travelodge now as I don't want to be flagged up as that "hbrac trying it on again for the possibility of some compensation". All complaints were bona fide.
Many years ago when the kids were small and we took a family room at the Travelodge I pulled out the sofa bed only to find the bottom sheet still bearing the signs of someone's sexual activity !! I won't go into more detail so as not to put anyone off their brekkie.
It's all cost cutting as you say and putting services out to tender at the cheapest rate they can find by people who couldn't really give a damn.
The receptionist at Gt Dunmow was very helpful and understanding and we had a long chat where the end comment was "I have just handed in my notice because I want to be able to run my own team and have control over the way I want things done.... properly". Nuff said.
Perhaps you may also like to copy your report on to our reviews page for this hotel ...
I have become more and more disenchanted with Travelodge, because low prices seem to combine dirty rooms and unhelpful service. I too found to my displeasure that the Travelodge at Great Dunmow charged for parking, and the food offered was cold and of a poor standard.
I even got offered a room at Manchester's Sportcity Travelodge that had no bed in it, and when I did get a room, I was disturbed by the carpet fitters at 8 am asking if they could come and do my room. (It did have carpet in it when I stayed in it, but they were upgrading all the carpet in the hotel.) The breakfast was cold and greasy, and the chamber maid had not replaced the sanitary bags in the bathroom, and one had been used. I spoke with the manager, and explained that I was not after a comp stay, but felt they needed to be informed of their shortcomings. I also had an evening meal which was a disgrace to the name.
I simply will be voting with my feet in future.
If you haven't done so already, it would be appreciate if you could post a review of both those hotels.

Not sure if either of you were using the travelodge at Great Dunmow for Stansted airport. If so then perhaps you would like to use this b&b which gets great reviews if you need to stay near Stansted again. I live in Suffolk so am only 45 minutes away from the airport!
No Pippa we weren't but I'm sure that your link would be of great help to somebody flying from Stansted. We were visiting family not too far away. Our first choice was unavailable as the proprietors had stopped doing B&B so we thought that a saver deal at the Travelodge would mean money saved. Well it did fulfill that criteria and I wasn't expecting a 5* hotel but when even the most basic conditions are sadly lacking ........
I'll certainly post some reviews Luci, but it was at least a year since I stayed at these hotels ...... promise to add them during the week to come!
Review posted David but it doesn't appear.Has it to be checked first?
Many thanks, and yes, there is a short delay while it is pending approval.
I thought so David.
Review approved.
Thanks Luci.I just got a email from Travelodge asking me to rate my stay there
