Hi Caretta
Just looked at all your pictures, they are beautiful and they look very professional. Thank you again for sharing.

About a third of this is single-lane road (sometimes 2 lanes for the climbing direction)
The rest of it is highway of 2 lanes in each direction.
From Turgutreis to Ephesus is 197 km, with similar road distribution (see post above)
So both trips are doable but not adviseable in a single day.
I advise you to stay one night in Selcuk. Other than Ephesus, there are other historic sites: the house of Virgin Mary, Church of St John, medieval Selcuk Castle. You can't see all of these on the same day of 400km driving.
In Ephesus, park your car at the lower end of the city (where most parking and shops are). From there take the horse carriage to the upper end and walk through the city downslope. Ephesus is on a slope, it will be tiring to go both up and down on foot if the weather is too warm (in July-August).
Thank you so much. This trip is just sounding better and better by the minute. We have been looking at Selcuk, looks like a plan.
The weather should be okay, we are there the first 2 weeks in May.

I intend to do the 2 day trip from Turgutreis - does anyone have any info on the hotels local operators use - don't mind basic but as it will be mid Aug would like to know they are cool!

So glad that you like my photos.
I do hope that you can find a local opertator for your trip.

We visited Ephesus on Good Friday it was truly amazing took lots of pics, so glad we went. Also did the Virgin Marys house and resting place and several other roman sites.
I will hire a car when we go and have a night away, sounds so good.
