7th september - flew to Vegas from Glasgow via Philadelphia. Freshened up on arrival at Treasure Island and walked to cafe Andreotti to try the buffet at Harrah's. Had a look at the selection and abandoned. Also tried Imperial Palace buffet and abandoned and went to Pizza Palace in Imperial Palace instead. Good bruschetta. And only $3.25 too! Went to Casino Royale but no 25c roulette. Played some slots and had a drink before walking back to hotel as really tired.
8th September - Got bus along Sands/Twain to Boulevard Mall. Went to the usual shops like Best Buy and Barnes and Noble first. Went to Vons before going back on bus to hotel for some supplies for the room. Had an hour at the pool before getting ready to go out. Went for dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy in Fashion Show Mall using $10 birthday coupon. Stopped to see pirate show at TI but cancelled. Came back into TI and had a drink while playing slots. Early night at 11pm or so.
9th September - Got taxi to Wal Mart on Charleston Boulevard $20 inc tip. Then after that we took the bus along Charleston to Martin Luther King boulevard and walked up to the Premium outlets. Got taxi back $15 inc tip. Went to pool for an hour or so. Got taxi to the Hilton. Joined slot club and did the ACG 2/1 buffet coupon. Went to Circus Circus for funbook. Did $15 for $10 chips and lost them on roulette. Went over to the Riviera for the Comedy Club, using 2/1 coupon. Good comedy. Went back to TI again and did the $10 free slot play that came with the room. Cashed out about $30. Had one drink, but this was the latest night so far 130am.
10th September - Went up to Frontier, joined slot club and did 2/1 buffet. Good coupons in funbook although we never got around to using them. Breakfast buffet ok but small. Had waffle and strawberries, fruit, potatoes, salsa, orange juice. Good value at $11 for 2. Wandered around fashion show mall. Had pizza at 330pm from Sbarro. Went to pool at 4pm and over to Wynn at 530 to see about Avenue Q tickets. Ended up they had added a Sunday show so we booked that as they had good seats. The Saturday seats weren't so good, but once we saw the theatre we realised almost any seat would have been fine as it's not a huge theatre. Got taxi to Gold coast $11 including tip and had buffet $13 for 2 with 2/1 AGC coupon. Played slots, had free ACG drinks. Went to Palms, signed up for $10 free slot play. Lost it all. Got shuttle to Barbary Coast and had free ACG drink. Played slots, cashed out even. Went to Flamingo, cashed out even. Clamined $10 in free play. Cashed out $32. Put $1 in dollar McIlhenny's Tabasco slot machine and won $75 with 3 green shirts. I put the $1 in for hubby as the green shirt was a bit like a Celtic shirt (his Scottish team), and it worked out quite nicely! Cashed out and left.
11th September - Took bus to Belz. Didn't buy much so came back and went to the pool. Got ready for Avenue Q and had some panic as the room safe wouldn't open and our tickets etc were inside. Got the safe open in the end and went down to Dishes buffet. Quite good. Chow mein good, pizza good. Not very well laid out though, having to wait in lots of separate lines. Desserts strange - no slices of cake. Had ice cream and choc dipped strawberries and cotton candy. $43 for 2. Went over to Avenue Q. Excellent show at $99. Restrooms in Wynn very nice! Came back to TI and had free breeze bar drinks. Played slots but didn't spend much.
12 September - Got up and went to pool at 10am (via Krispy Kreme). Stayed till noon and then went back to the room, packed, showered and changed and went to Pizza palace for some bruschetta and mozzarella sticks for lunch. Then went to the meet at Caesars. Nice to meet everyone. Went to forum shops and saw the new elevators. Went up to Fashion Show Mall again. Dumped our bags in hotel and picked up some coupons for evening. Went to see Pirate show at TI, but left during it as it wasn't very good. Walked to Barbary Coast and took shuttle to Orleans. Ooops accidentally went on seafood night (we're vegetarian). We sat away from the buffet and still had a good meal. Had free ACG drinks, played some slots and took shuttle back. Played vouchers leftover from Barbary Coast, went to Casino Royale. Came back to TI and cashed in an old voucher for $40. Played some quarters in change but lost. Had one drink and back to room.
13 September - Moved to Bellagio for last 2 nights. Checked into room 6044. Nice view of strip but not of lake. Went over to Desert Passage then went to the pool. Had Bellagio buffet for dinner. Fantastic. Went at 630pm so no line. Took tram to Monte Carlo and walked down to the Comedy Stop. Used $5 off coupon. Good comedy show. Went into Nine Fine Irishmen for a drink on the way back. Walked back to Bellagio and had early night as we were tired. Had a 'I don't want to go home' moment in Nine Fine Irishmen as we were sitting outside looking at the strip.
14 September - Went to the pool around 945am for about 2 hours or so. Got changed and walked up to Flaming and used the coupon for $5 off buffet each we got at Carnaval Court. $15 for both of us for brunch. Not bad at all for price. Fresh strawberries. Dodgy grainy ice cream. Walked up to TI and took bus over to Best Buy on mary land parkway. Took bus up Maryland Parkway to Sahara Avenue. Walked over to the Sahara and then took taxi to the outlets $11 including tip. Took taxi back to Sahara and had our first shot on the monorail to get back down to Bellagio. Got ready and went to Bally's buffet for dinner. Not bad, just over $40. Went up to Casino Royale and played some slots until the smell from the snack bar bits in there really put me off. Used monorail tickets to claim $5 slot play each. Had quite an early night as going home tomorrow. Boo!
15 September - Flight out of Vegas was so badly delayed that we were going to miss our flight from Philly to Glasgow, so they put us on and AA flight through Chicago instead.
Wow you had a busy time Lesley! Thanks for sharing your TR, I enjoyed reading it and it wasn't too long.
How was your flight with USairways?
We are thinking of booking for November with them. There is a 2 hour time between flights in Philadelphia on the way there. In your opinion will that be enough for customs etc. How long was your layover?
Thanks for posting.
Pebbles
US Airways was fine. Not quite Continental (who have seatback entertainment), but still ok. Movies on the flight.
It's awakened my interest to visit L.V. again as it's probably 10 years since I was last there.
Mike
Seriously, you'll notice a lot of new things. Wynn, Aladdin, I don't even know if Bellagio and Paris would have been there 10 years ago? What ones do you remember? My cousin stayed at excalibur years ago and can't remember Bellagio.
Great report leslie, really want to go to LV but Iam finding it hard convincing the kids to stay at home with nanna, Oh well a few more years and may be a bribe will do the job.
we stayed at Imperial Palace (1994 or even 1993). Excalibur was built and in fact that's were we wanted to stay. Arrived on a Sunday evening, about 18:00 and told Excalibur was full - all 8000+ rooms. We were gutted but our own fault as we'd not made a forward reservation.
The Imp. Palace was fine but we had to stay in the Fairfield Inn (Marriott) on Paradise Rd at the junction with East Twain Avenue that first night.
I can remember this only because I've one of those great drawing type maps (like on the wall in "Friends'" appartment. It's on my office wall and I spend distractive minutes looking at it. (Got Manhattan in front of me as well).
I remember standing in the grounds of the Mirage hotel waiting for my wife and kids and wearing a t-shirt I'd had for a couple of years bearing the word Mirage - but unrelated to the hotel. Several people asked me for information thinking I worked there.
Don't think Luxor was built then and MGM Grand was in construction. Defo no Vegas World.
I think Viv and I are likely to go there within next 2 years and she's hinted about next March time. So, if anyone has any good ideas for low-cost flights out of Manchester in, say, Feb or March 2006 I'd be grateful of your help - but not TCD eh; many of you will have seen my posts on TCD/Excel and Air Atlanta forums.
Mike
glad you had a great trip Lesley. Lots of travelling around!
Did you go with Continental? Thats who we go with in just over 4 weeks!!! IM SO EXCITED!!!!
Where is the bar fine irish men?
JaimeC (PS tell your husband I support the other glasgow team )
No we went with US Airways, and ended up coming back with American Airways. Been with continental before and they are better than both of those, you get seat back entertainment. So you've picked the right one.
Nine Fine Irishmen is in New York New York, so only a short tram ride away for you from Luxor (you are staying at Luxor, yes???).
http://www.newyorknewyork.com/
look under dining, nine fine irishmen
$12 for two drinks ($6.50 for a fosters and $5.50 for a smirnoff ice).
Actually they have their own site

Thanks Lesley!
We haven't spent much time in the casinos past the Wynn and have never found time to go to The Orleans and Palms, you've motivated us to try to spend some time doing that when we go in November. And this time we are going to make a concerted effort to remember id so we can join the players clubs, you really did seem to make some savings (all the more to shop with .)
I'm trying to work out which shows to see at the moment. What are the comedy clubs like and which is the best, we haven't been before and fancy trying one. Have you been to Purple Reign at the Boardwalk on any of your previous visits?
Lisa
I've never heard of Purple Reign to be honest. The Comedy Stop is probably the best IMHO. Riviera one has also been good twice that we've been there, although others seem to dislike it at times.
If you plan on getting off strip you should get a hold of the American Casino Guide if you can. It will give you some 2/1 buffet coupons for Gold Coast, Orleans, Hilton, amongst other stuff.
HTH
Purple Reign are the Prince tribute band at the Boardwalk. They are excellent!!
My mum & I went to Vegas earlier this year for the first time - we have already booked to go back next October ! Being keen shoppers I am very interested to know how to get to other shops that are off the Strip. In your post you mention -
'Got bus along Sands/Twain to Boulevard Mall. Went to the usual shops like Best Buy and Barnes and Noble first.'
'Got taxi to Wal Mart on Charleston Boulevard $20 inc tip. Then after that we took the bus along Charleston to Martin Luther King boulevard and walked up to the Premium outlets.'
Could your possibly elaborate a little more on where you got on/off the bus etc. We went to the 'newer' outlet but went via taxi from the Luxor & that was about it !!
Many Thanks,
Debbie
You must have been unlucky with your US Airways flights, as when we flew them from Manchester to Vegas via Philadelphia last year, we had the seat back t.v.'s, with excellent 'on-demand' IFE (stop, start, rewind as you please). New plane, free soft drinks, and headphones and a very generous 34" seat pitch.
It's possible they use different aircraft on the Glasgow/PHL route.
So when's the next trip?
'Got bus along Sands/Twain to Boulevard Mall. Went to the usual shops like Best Buy and Barnes and Noble first.'
This is the trip from TI to Boulevard Mall. Basically, go to TI, cross the strip, then go slightly along the side street which is Sands avenue, you will be facing the side of the Wynn Resort. There is a bus stop there that takes you east of the strip. Take that bus to 'South Maryland Parkway' to the Boulevard Mall. You will see the Mall, and probably Macy's in particular as you approach. You may get a better view if you sit on the left of the bus (left when facing forwards).
'Got taxi to Wal Mart on Charleston Boulevard $20 inc tip. Then after that we took the bus along Charleston to Martin Luther King boulevard and walked up to the Premium outlets.'
To go to this mall from the strip, take the strip bus north straight up to the Downtown Transportation Centre and transfer to the Premium Outlets shuttle. That is the cheapest way.
If you are interested in directions to other places, let me know. I have a decent map and know some of the bus routes.
