Cesme Review. Have a nice holiday.
You may visit Turkey's major city Izmir, then have a historical trip to Selcuk and Ephesus. You should book a trip to Ephesus. Here you may find a nice Certainly Ephesus and the Selçuk area are on many people's ‘must-see' lists and İzmir's Bazaar, second only to İstanbul's and large enough to cover several districts of the city, is the perfect place to ‘shop til you drop'!
If you visit Ephesus, you should also see the scant remains of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and which offers a great photo opportunity of the main sites of Selçuk which form a spectacular backdrop - Ayasoluk Hill and Fortress with St. John's Basilica (the burial place of St. John the Evangelist) and the İsa Bey Mosque.
While in the area, it's also well worth visiting Şirince, the former Greek hill village just 8 kms east of and above Selçuk. Spectacular views all around and it's great to amble through the small bazaar and the cobbled streets and perhaps sample the villager's home-made wines.
Nearer to Çeşme you may wish to see Ildırı, 27 kms north east of the town. With a picturesque harbour as you enter the village and former-Greek stone houses. It's also the site of ancient Erythrae, an important city during Roam times and if you're feeling energetic and walk ever upwards behind the theatre you arrive at the remains of an old Greek Church and the Temple of Apollo - and you are also rewarded with stunning views of Aegean bays and islands.
And for a relaxing few hours to charge up the batteries after all this activity, you could visit either the Thermal Hotel or the Mud Baths at Şifne, a few miles from Çeşme, just beyond Ilıca) where there's a superb beach with warm waters as a result of thermal activity under the sea bed.
Oh, and don't miss Alaçatı Market on Saturdays - the best one for miles!
If you won't have your own transport, Şifne Ildırı, Ilıca and Alaçatı are all easily reached on the inexpensive and regular Dolmuş (shared mini-bus) service.
Have a great holiday and if you do need any further information, please let me know, We have lived in the area for over 13 years and I will be happy to help.
