Typhoon warning for Hong Kong

Flights to southeast China, including Hong Kong, could be hit this weekend by a 110mph typhoon that is heading towards the country's coastline.

Cathay Pacific said its services were expected to remain normal, but it warned flights might be delayed or diverted due to strong winds and heavy rain at Hong Kong International Airport.

Forecasts suggest Hong Kong will escape the full force of the storm, the strongest to hit the northwest Pacific for two decades, but some flooding is expected.

China Southern Airlines has cancelled some flights from Guangzhou because of Typhoon Megi, which has already caused torrential rail and flooding in Taiwan.

Passengers due to fly over the weekend are being advised to check flight status updates before leaving for the airport.
