Hi Pasteljay,

Let's start with the important one Beer ranges from 30 rupees to 50 rupees for a small budwieser and 60 to 90 for a large one, spirits range from 12 rupees in local bars to 40 rupees for a large 60ml shot.

Toiletries are not that cheap but it is better to buy them here and you have more room and less weight in your case.

Food is very cheap even if you eat in the higher class restaurants, but i would suggest stick to the middle of the road ones prices there will be cheap and good quality, you will pay around 225 rupees for a curry and rice, if you eat in out of the way places it is even cheaper 140 rupees for a full tandori chicken.

Clothes are very cheap you can buy T shirt vests (hot tuna, billabong etc) from 100 rupees. You can also have made to measure clothes at reasonable prices trousers from 500 rupees, shirts from 300 rupees etc, etc.

I hope this helps you.

Hi guys

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much things are in Goa nowadays?

For example a beer, meal for two, etc.

We went in January 06 but I am sure things have changed - although it will still be ridiculously cheap!

Thanks once again

Hey Mardon

We stay in Arambol. Alternative, beautiful and almost Brit-free during our stay!

I love it there! The fresh water lake is great. I'll be making a trip there for a day or two in Feb :D

So for those of us that haven't been before - how many rupees to a pound then?

Me too, Mardon! It's like being at a festival for 5 weeks. Crazy folks, groovy music, amazing food and best of all, no hassle .....it's perfect. Us regulars reckon there's a disease called Arambolitis, once you catch it you can't be a**ed to do anything but chill on the beach!

I love the trip up on the bikes. Some really amazing sites when you pass through all the villages and over the bridges, through the cutout in the mountain and down the steap hill!

Its currently 71rs to £1 but it was upto 75rs last week. Not the best at the moment. I used to get 85rs to the pound. You'll still get a lot for your money though!
