I thought that my recent experience may be of interest to some of you so here it is. I was due to go on holiday on 26th August to the campsite Le Ranolien in Brittany run by a French company called Yelloh Village. I had booked for this year while we were there last year. I had also booked seperately to travel through the Chunnel at a cost of £189 return.
Sadly on the day we were due to travel my father died and I had to go to Glasgow to help my sister with the funeral and clearing the house etc. I contacted both Yelloh Village and Eurotunnel asap and explained the situation, the two replies I received were very different. I was informed by Eurotunnel that the fare is non refundable under any cicrcumstances and that was not open to discussion. They informed me that the ticket is valid for twelve months subject to a £30 amendment fee but I booked in November last year so that rules that out.
Yelloh Village, on the other hand, asked if I would be good enough to wait untill after the last day of my booking as they may be able to rent out the chalet I had booked and this would mean a better refund for me. I came home from work yesterday with the intention of contacting them to discuss things only to find a letter expressing their condolences and containing a cheque for the total amount less 30 Euros "Admin Fee".
I must admit that the money aspect is not really important after all I am insured so will suffer no loss but what a difference in attitude, I was very surprised. I hope this may be helpful to some of you.
