Hi Guys -- Betty's boat trip (Great Day Out), is fantastic. We do it every year. Boat takes off from behind Betty's Place on the River Sal at 10:00am. Goes out to sea for about an hour or so for a little dolphin spotting (we've never been disappointed by not seeing Dolphins), then back up the river for bird watching, which is fantastic and you needn't be a 'Twitcher' to enjoy watching the Kingfishers, Egrets, Sea Eagles, Indian Rollers, etc. Lunch consists of wonderful garlic prawns, the sauce being mopped up by fresh bread. Following this is the main course of Kingfish, salad and rice, followed by a wonderful fresh fruit salad doused liberally with Honeybee. All in all a fantastic, good-value-for-money day out. I knew there'd be something I'd miss ..... bird books and binoculars are supplied and the boat arrives back at Betty's around 3:30. Just in time to hit the beach for a couple of hours.

we will be staying in candolim and I dont know if its too far away from there..............colleen........

Hi Irishcolleen - sorry not to have gotten back to you sooner but couldn't with the site being inaccessible. Betty's Place is in Mobor, South Goa, so would maybe be a little too far out for you.

Anyone know why the HT site's been down all week? I've been suffering withdrawal symptoms !!

bettys place has a web site... http://www.bettysgoa.com Taxi costs about £4 there and back.

A really good day out.

I have stayed in Varca the last two years and going back again this year. Beach shacks - Glorios. Restaurants - Sun and Moon Is my favourite.

Hi Colleen its about 1and 1/2 hours by taxi from where Bettys is in cavelosim south goa to candolim we did it by bus and it took us about 1 3/4 hours anita

Thanks for the PM Anita-very helpful indeed!! We have actually booked to stay at the Varca Palms hotel. As we are taking our son we wanted somewhere 'comfortable' opposed to the type of travelling we did in India a few years ago-80rupee a night type places. We have chosen South Goa as we have done the North and fancied the quiet of the South and we also want to go back to Hampi-apparently you can go by train from Margao?? Are there any must sees/do's for South Goa? Bearing in mind we will have a 6 year old with us, he's easily pleased and loves anything so no kids clubs for us!!

I found the offer on opodo germany, so maybe the english tour operators dont use it.
i am having a really hard time trying to find accomodation over christmas/new year the prices have gone sky high.i tried getting a flight with condor and the are asking 2600euros for two.
Might have to stay at home :evil:

There's a fairly new guest house Palm Grove (opened Dec 06) in Cavelossim which doesn't use U.K. tour operaters I could pm phone numbers if you want.
