Got my varifocals today from Franks in Panjim and the cost was -
1800 rps for the lenses - £21.42 (todays rate was 84rps = £1)
and then you can pay what you want to for the frames - I chose half frame titanium which cost 2.400 (£28.50) so mine were about £50 but I could have had some frames for 600rps (£7).
I then went into Calangute and asked the prices there - 2,500 (£30) for the lenses and the frames started at 1,500 (£18).
Franks Opticians in Panjim is near the big church - looking at the church there is a playground on your left and the opticians is on the street facing it. They have been there for years and the service is very good. They also have a shop in Mapusa which is near to Royal foods just off the right hand side of the market.
Thanks for this Narial. I paid 8000 rps for varifocals at Romanos in Calangute in April, a real rip-off compared to yours. The frames are nothing special.
Hi Narial do they still not do eye tests, i know you took yours with you, just wondering if i have to get it done before we go. Many thanks
in january i had a test at the opticians above angelos opticians in mapusa .i had to throw the specs away!!!
D&A have half price eye tests at the moment. £13.75 thats not bad price.
imho are you talking about franks in panjim? I've been trying to email them about an eyetest but email keeps coming back as failor.
I am going into Franks on Monday to ask him to make me some sun glasses so will ask about the eye test.
Have always used Romano's and had good service. But always have my eyes tested over here first.
green.eyed.lady No it wasnt Franks. I cant remember what it was called now but its near Gordhinos restaurant . I felt like i should buy a pair of glasses as i got the eye test free.I wanted frameless but they dont do them in glass only plastic. On the way back i stopped for lunch in Amigos and dropped them on the floor and they cracked on the edge ! they cost me over £100 ! I am now wearing £1 shop reading glasses and they never seem to break .
imho Thats a real shame worked out a dear pair of glasses, thankyou for the reply, i think i will try franks this time.
green.eyed.lady Yep i think i am going to try Franks now . I told them they broke cause the glasses box they gave me were too small so they trimmed the cracked part off and ruined the shape of them. After that i was too frightened to wear them. Started wearing them 2 weeks ago and they dropped on my carpet and broke completely !
Thats real bad luck, you oviously were'nt meant to have them. Will let you know how i get on in franks if i go before you.
I feel like everyone is going before me ! I have a friend there who went in Sept for 6 months so i am getting daily weather reports and he is eating my favorite veg curry for 45rs,instead of the £9.60 i have to pay for it here .
Never mind imho the time does fly, when are you going?
A friend of mine has just got a apartment for 5 months at 10.000rs and said if he had booked later he would have got it cheaper as they dont think Uk tourists will be going this season.Last season the same apartment was going for 18,000rs .
When do you go ? I bet its before me If it is dont eat all my Vegetable Makhanwala curry . Tried making it in the Uk but theres something about eating outside under the stars that it dont taste the same here .
sorry imho - eaten it all already
imho you beat me i'm not going till 19th December stopping of in mumbai on the way, only staying for a month, lucky you staying for that long.10,000rps very cheap for 5 months, as i said the time will fly by.and you will be .
green.eyed.lady Yes i think he has got a bargain there as its a nice little complex just off the Baga road. My apartment i have re booked from last year is 15.000rs a month but its so nice that for the 1st 2 weeks i only went out to get food to cook then stayed in.Better kitchen in it than what i got in the Uk !
But your picking the best time to go to Goa as its nice to get away from the UK at Christmas time. yep i am going to Bombay as well .Cant do charters even if it was for 2 weeks i wouldnt do a charter again .
Yes i agree dont like charter much either, hope you have a lovely time, we've not seen our apartment yet it was rented buy a friend there, would think it will be fine, looking forward to being away at xmas, all the best GEL
If you get the free test make sure you can read what the optician has wrote down for your reading as i couldnt read mine but she wrote it down again in not so much scribble.
I had to book a appointment but some Tescos if they are not busy will test your eyes straight away .
