It's only around 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) from Varna airport to Golden Sands, so the price that you have been quoted is way over the top, as far as I am concerned - 30 Leva (just over £10) each way would be a high price.

When i was there last year one of the locals said taxis shouldn't be more than 1lev per Kilometre,going on that then it is roughly 25kilometres from airport to Golden sands so around 25levs(about 8pound)is a fair price.But as it's from the airport then they usually charge a bit more.

Also if you wanted to book before you go then this site HERE charges about 18pounds one way and then you will get a better price in resort when you are returning home.

Thanks for the help guys......So basically if I get off the plane and offer a cabbie 30lev ( i dont mind paying that) to take me to my hotel in Golden Sands and agree the price in advance I should be ok and that is a more than fair offer??

I am staying at the yavor hotel and I will post a review when i get back....not expecting too much as they only charged me a fiver a night!!

Is £50 a day enough to spend??? For food drink and clubs etc....Hope so cos its all I have

£50 is around 144 Leva - the legal minimum monthly wage in Bulgaria is 160 Leva (around £55.56) so, even allowing for higher prices in the resorts, you will still be very wealthy in Bulgaria.....

Dont worry, you've got a quite reasonable hotel in a very good position in the resort at an excellent price. I'd definitely stay there especially at that price.

Taxi driver at airport tried to rip me off ... wanted 100 lev to golden sands , the lowest i could get them to was 60 lev...despite my best negotiations.....in the end I walked away and the FIRST CHOICE rep let me get on the coach to GS and dropped me right outside hotel for 10 pounds......

A nice bulgarian bar man is taking me back to airport for 30 lev .....

Try to remember some taxi company phone number - like Lasia Taxi - 500 000 (phone number). And ask somebody to call you a taxi from the airport. When you call a taxi it will be sure that you will pay the proper rate, so in my opinion should be about 6-7 pound to Golden sand.
Remember - Never catch a taxi on the street, every time call for a taxi using a phone. Otherwise you will be ripped off. Those taxies waiting at the airport will charge you 30 lv to the centre of Varna (when normal is about 5 lv)
