Hi elvis ... the Las Vegas regulars are perhaps more likely to visit the America forum than the City Breaks forum. It may be worth checking out or posting in that forum.
Thanks David, as a mod can you move the topic for me please? I dont think I can do that myself?
No problem elvis, I will move it across. But do have a browse too, as you may find the America forum already contains loads of info about Vegas hotels.
will do, thanks v much
This website has room sizes listed on it.
This website has a fun tongue in cheek review of hotel rooms and amenities.
This website gives general information for each hotel too.
Hope that helps. Once you've had a look around, come back with some more questions.
My favourite is the Signature at MGM. I'll give you a list of the different hotels I've been in and what I think of them personally.....I can't remember doing this before as it happens......
Signature at MGM - I love this place. It's out the back of the main MGM hotel but is connected by a walkway, it's basically three towers, all the rooms are suites and around 70% of them are privately owned but are rented out either by MGM (who take a cut), a management company or via the owner themselves through sites like http://www.vrbo.com
The suites are lovely, modern, spacious and clean, with Plasma TV's and Kitchen areas. Beds are super comfy, best I've slept in, anywhere. Each tower has it's own pool and only Signature guests are allowed to use them so they are always pretty quiet. Pool service for food and drink is very good. Because it's not directly attached to a casino it's quiet but you're only 5 mins away from the MGM Grand casino. It is a little more expensive than some of the strip hotels but there are good deals available.
It ticks every box for me. Only slight 'issue' is that if you gamble and have an MGM/Mirage players card, they won't let you use it for the Signature, you will only be able to have buffet comps at the MGM Grand.
MGM Grand - Some people don't like it because it's 'too big'. Personally I think that's ridiculous! It is big and it may take 5 or 6 mins to walk from front to back but you have an amazing choice of restaurants and bars on site, several fabulous pool areas and a good choice of gambling with reasonable table limits. Rooms are very nice, even the standard tower rooms. I had not stayed here in my first 8 visits to Vegas but it has soon become my fave hotel/casino and only just loses out to the Signature as my number 1. It's towards one end of the strip but has a monorail station in the casino. There are usually some very good deals around for MGM that make it a top choice.
Flamingo - I like it. Yes it's a bit old overall but the pool area is good (although the pool is FREEZING) and the grounds are very nice. Rooms are ok and the newer GO rooms are supposed to be very nice. There are some low table limits in there and the whole atmosphere is laid back. Not bad at all. It has a central position on the 'Strip' and a monorail station. Room rates are normally fairly competitive but not as good as MGM and not as nice.
Imperial Palace - In all honesty it's a bit of a budget option. If all you want is a cheapish room in a central strip location it's fine. No frills, dated, very basic, small pool. Table limits are on the low side, food options are poor quality. If you do stay there ask for a room away from 'Carnival Court' as there is loud music until VERY late There's nothing wrong with it as such, it's a basic hotel.
Monte Carlo - I quite liked it when I stayed there. It's a decent hotel with a fairly good pool area. Table limits are on the low side during the week and room rates are pretty good. It has a decent position on the Strip but is suffering at the moment because of the building work next door for the City Centre project. I ate in a restaurant in there last year and the front of the casino was filthy, not outside, inside! Normally I would consider staying there but not whilst there's building work going on
Bellagio - I suppose a lot of people would have this at the top of their list and to a point I can understand why. It's a beautiful place and the pool areas in particular are amazing with 6 different pools, however, this may be affected by the City centre project as well as it's on the opposite side to the Monte Carlo. It's fairly expensive to stay there and the basic rooms are in all honesty, very nice but not amazing. It has a very good position on the Strip. Table limits are high and not for the low roller kind of gambler. There are some excellent bars and restaurants in there but they are all at the top end of the price range.
I do love the Bellagio but think there are much better value places to stay at. Having said that, it's a great place to be able to say...'I've stayed there'!
Treasure Island - It's a long time since I stayed here, one of my first hotels in fact so I don't remember that much about it to be honest. I do remember thinking it was ok, and quite liked it. It's up the north end of the strip so is a bit away from centre. Room rates are normally pretty good and I think the pool area was ok. Table limits are normally ok during the week. It was taken over recently by a new owner so things may be changing a bit? It's not bad.
Orleans - My only 'off strip' hotel (ignoring downtown). I love the Orleans. It's one of the few Vegas hotels that still has that 'Old Vegas' feel to it. Yes it is very dated and a bit dingy in the casino area but it has a lot going for it.
The pool area is very large and never really gets busy. Table limits are some of the best around (low). Room rates are sometimes seriously cheap - last year they were doing rooms for $18-20 a night at times. The rooms are probably amongst the largest of any standard Vegas rooms. There are some decent restaurants there that are well priced, they also have a huge 10 pin bowling alley and multiplex cinema. Although it's off strip there is a free shuttle bus that runs regularly to the strip and back. You can do a lot worse than stay at the Orleans, it's right up there for me.
Golden Nugget - The only 'Downtown' hotel I've stayed at, and I've stayed there 3 times now I think. Definitely the best pool area downtown and the best hotel/casino. It's worth staying there for 2 or 3 nights to do the whole downtown experience. Room rates are pretty good and it's right on Freemont street so good for the Freemont street light show etc. I like the Nuget, has some decent food places and table limits are reasonable. The place to stay if you're going to do Downtown.
Mirage - I liked Mirage. Great position. Nice rooms and casino. I found the pool area to be very very busy and you're squashed in like sardines. Table limits can be a bit high and room rates are normally in the middle of the scale although there are some good deals at the moment.
There's a new 'Volcano' attraction there now. Certainly one to consider, has one of the best buffets in Vegas in 'Cravings'.
Planet Hollywood - I actually stayed here when it was called 'Aladdin' so it's changed a fair bit since then! I liked it though, I would put it on a similar rating as TI and Monte Carlo, although to be fair it's probably better than those now. Good location on the strip, room rates are normally pretty low. They have an excellent buffet too. Certainly one to consider.
Well that's my views of the hotels I've stayed at over the years. I'm sure some people may disagree I'm hoping to stay at MGM Grand again this year.....as long as I can get a good rate!
Cheers,
TC
PH has had fairly high room rates compared to when it was Aladdin, but I got an offer last week at $49 which was a steal, but apparently it didn't last long and next day there were only a couple of dates at that rate whereas it was available for most dates till July when I had checked.

Cheers Luci, if I can't be there, the next best thing is thinking and talking about Vegas!
I don't have the vast experience of Vegas that TeeCee obviously has, but I can tell you what I thought of the various places I visited in my time there.
We were in Luxor, at the Southern end of the strip. Only Mandalay Bay is further out. The hotel was fine, if a little basic, with a variety of eating options. Gambling for low rollers is not a problem at Luxor. The room rates were very reasonable.
As for the location, many would think it unwise to be at one end of the Strip, preferring to be more central for visiting other hotels and atttractions, and I can see the merit in that argument. However, my wife and I enjoyed walking to various points on the Strip each day, and even walked all the way to Stratosphere at the Northern end of the Strip one day, before returning by monorail from the Hilton to MGM.
The walks were always punctuated by stops at the various hotels along the way to soak up each different mood and atmoshphere. So, the location didn't really matter to me, especially as local transport is so good.
Of the hotels we did visit, like TeeCee, I also liked the MGM, but that and New York New York are at the same end of the Strip as Luxor.
More centrally, the Bellagio is beautiful and has a lot to admire. I just think, unless you have money to burn, there are more economical places to stay, while a visit to Bellagio lets you see most of what there is to see, with the exception of the rooms.
Mirage and The Venetian also appeal centrally, and the Venetian is well worth a visit if you are impressed by the themes of the individual hotels, as you can take a gondola ride there.
At the Northern end, none of the older hotels held any great appeal for me, and the same applied to Circus Circus, although I might rethink the Golden Nugget after reading TeeCee's review. It might be worth a few nights there.
On leaving Vegas, we said that, if we return, it will probably be to the Southern end again, back at the Luxor or nearby at the MGM. If going central, I might be tempted by the Wynn, but that would have a lot to do with the fact I love golf and it has it's own course. However, that hotel is also quite expensive.
Anyone thinking of visiting Vegas this summer might want to have a look at what I consider an excellent offer to stay at the MGM Grand.
I have snaffled a bargain at the Encore for $129. It's a brand new 5 star hotel so this is a bargain. I could have had the Wynn for $109.

wow, certainly some good deals coming out, just hope I can snap one or two up later in the year!!
Im leaning towards the MGM grand at the moment, hope they have some gtreat deals when we get ready to book it.
