hi Karen

Did you look at the hotel website- what dates were you looking at? For my boyfriend and I it costed 199 for three nights for both of us in december. That was a special 3 for 2 night offer. I looked at the first 5 nights of march there just to check for 2 adults and 1 child and for a triple room the prrice was 108 per room per night for all three of you bed and breakfast.

The hotel is just a standard 4 star it doesnt really have any entertainment. We just used as a base and went to Venice island for the day time just coming back to hotel to sleep and chill out. The TV had a few channels in English too I think a movie one as well.

Let me know if you need any more info

hi

thanks for that, its a bit more than i wanted to spend, i go abroad about 5-6 times a year so need bargains , cant afford £500 just for the rooms, this is from around 30th may think we might stay in venice for 2-3 nights then go up to trieste if i can work out how far it is lol, found a price for another hotel thats got great reviews but looks basic so that might do lol

Just in case that 500 was actually euros so prob about 329 sterling..

Just re Trieste the web link for the italian rail service is http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html. The train station facing the hotel is called Venezia Mestre and you could pick up the train to trieste from here, the station there is called Trieste Centrale. Journey time is about 2 hours I think and trains are very regular... You could also get train from Venice island to Trieste. That is Venezia SL to trieste centrale if youre looking for timetables from that link.

Hope that helps

oh thats not so bad then thought that was £500 lol, ive found cheap flights to milan, trieste, rome and venice lol, so trying to decide where to go, thought might be a good idea to go to 2 places or do you think i would need 5 days in venice, id had a look on that website prior to you sending it but couldnt find a price,
Reply
Had a quick look at website there- when you are looking at a time of a train on the timetable just click the little shopping trolley on the right hand side - that brings you to a screen where you can view a price. Venezia Mestre to Trieste Centrale is 11euro 1st class, and about 7 standard I think. I think you see enough in three days to be honest. We are easy going enough and we had seen what we wanted to in the time we were there, thursday night to sunday afternoon considering we spent one of the afternoons in Mestre shopping in Auchan hypermarket!!

Trains are very easy to manage there- was actually thinking to myself its a great way to see the places you want in Italy as the flights can be so expensive good to catch a few places when youre there. Any more help just ask no worries

hi

thanks for your help catherine, nice to get someone helpful i usually help on the turkey forum with hols and weddings lol as i got married there.
11 euros is cheap. trying to find somewhere for our anniversary, we said we would go to a different country every year lol, last year was warsaw ,the year before prague for honeymoon, year 2 ? we were hoping to get away kid free but my youngest has decided she wants to come, so that changes things slightly. hypermarket sounds good to me but hubby and daughter would hate that lol. what are the prices like to eat out in venice, nothing fancy, and beer prices, were used to going to cheap places lol for beer, eastern block ,turkey loads etc, was in marrakech last mth that was fab !!

 Right Catherine...another one for you!!!

I'm looking to book a surprise 'break'....found flights from Stansted to Treviso Airport (I take it this IS where I want to arrive?? ) on 28th Feb..taxed etc works out to £165.38 for both of us.

Looked on the Plaza website (I DID try booking it elsewhere...but the rooms were not available!)...and looks like they do HAVE the rooms... from 3pm on 28th...4 nights...leaving to fly home on Sunday 4th March...320Euro... £211.50 sterling. Making the break from Wed to Sunday £376.88

Getting more confused as time goes on...initially was looking at Prague. Does everybody think this is a 'good' price.....should I book..or do you think I could better it  ?? HELP!

Also....if I HAVE got the right airport....how did you get from airport to hotel? Many thanks Catherine!

Off to Venice soon for 4 nights. Flying in to Treviso Airport...from there we have to get to Hotel Plaza, Mestre. I've heard its quite cheap to get the blue bus for transfer. Does anybody know the cost....and/or cost of a taxi instead?

Also I've read about the '3 day cards' for travelling around on the water taxis. Are these the same as the orange cards that I've also been reading about?

I read somewhere that its advisable to buy the 3 day cards at the airport...why? Is it cheaper there or just saves the hassle once you get to Venice.

ANY information will be gratefully digested!!!

Hey ATVO

The bus from the airport is run by the company ATVO. This link http://www.atvo.it/eng/airport.php?ld=index_euro.php&id=0-1&var=t

describes the bus that runs from Treviso airport to Mestre Railway which is where the hotel plaza is. It also gives prices and a timetable. When you get off at Mestre Railway the hotel is across the road and down the road a couple of steps and is directly facing the train station( which is on the same side of the road the bus stops on).

The water buses in Venice are ran by the company ACTV. This is the link to their website
http://www.actv.it/english/home.php

basically the cost of each trip on a water bus is 5euros per person. A 3 day pass I think is 25 euros and this allows you to use them as much as you like ( and also allows you to use their land bus service). We got the pass at the water bus station at the Railway station in Venice. This station was called Ferrovia. There was no hassle at all getting it here.

I think people get them at the airport becuase they might get the ACTV bus from the airport and this will be covered on the three day ACTV ticket. I dont know if ACTV goes to Mestre though. Be no harm asking though by email if you wanted. To be honest the ATVO bus was nice and handy from Marco Polo airport so we were happy to pay the 5 or 6 euros for to save the hassle.

Any more info just ask glad to help

Hiya

The orange cards are not the same as the travel cards as they cost more and include entrance to various museums etc as well as unlimited waterbus travel. See http://www.venicecard.com/index_eng.jsp for details.

Hi Mandy,
The ATVO bus service runs from Marco polo airport to Lido di Jesolo, there seems to be a bus at 2132 which you might make. This is the link to the bus timetable http://www.atvo.it/orari/pdf_airport/MPJESOLOPS.pdf

Also this is a link to the bus service website http://www.atvo.it/eng/airport.php?ld=index_lineemare_j.php&id=4&var=v

Hope this helps. There is a desk in the airport building where you can buy tickets and get info

Enjoy yourself

hello,

me and my boyfriend are travelling to venice in august (flying into treviso) and would like to know the best way to travel from venice to trieste as it seems the trein italia website does not provide the information?

we are spending one week on holiday and have never been to venice before so we are also wondering if we should maybe just spend the entire week in venice, we are looking for a relaxing holiday but with lots of places of interest also. and does anyone think that venice would happily entertain two 22/23 year olds?

cheap accomodation options would alo be appreciated, we had been loking at accomodation outside of the city, such as Camping Village Alba d'Oro or similar cheap hostels as we are on a pretty tight budget?

Any info much appreciated.

thanks a million xxx

anyone know how venice is in jan/feb time

thinking of going but friends say it could be flooded anyone know anything

We vistied in 2005 at the end of February. The weather for us was bright and sunny but cold with frost at night and was ideal for sight-seeing. The floods are caused by the tides and can be made worse by weather conditions. We didn't see any flooding while we were there. More information on here:

Be aware that earlier in February is the carnival season which could be interesting but also means that hotels get booked up and prices go up.
