Just back and will place a review later on the Hotel section however just a few points. Last there in 2003, couldn't believe the change this time. With it going with the option of All Inclusive, they have to cater for most guests staying on site, therefore there was a distinct lack of space around the pool and lots more beds that cant be moved and are lined up row after row with no privacy in between. Definately a down side for us. Usual reservation of sun beds early doors but we only went to the pool late afternoon after a day on the beach and some beds were normally available by then. Hotel clean, rooms spotless, staff excellent as always, usual Pro Tur standard, just a shame about the pool area for us really. Have to agree, 2nd floor the best option with huge balconies. Next year we are going to the Sa Coma Playa next door, we found it to be a much more chilled out place after touring the grounds one lunch time.
The Prinsotel la Dorada is a good example. This is a terrific apart-hotel in Playa de Muro (Alcudia) that's always garnered excellent reviews, but for 2005 & 2006 they trialed all-inc. The service & entertainment went down, as did the food quality and whereas you could previously get sunbeds at any time of day, suddenly you couldn't get one for love nor money, as no one was going to the beach etc. for fear of missing out on getting their daily money's worth.
Thankfully they acknowledged it wasn't working and have returned to Room Only/B&B/HB for this year and the reviews are once again excellent.
I've nothing against all-inc and we've had some great all-inc holidays in the Caribbean and Tenerife, but hotels who suddenly decide to adopt the plan should really think about whether they have the facilities and space to cope, before taking the plunge.
Anyway, we've decided that early morning sunbed shenanigans are not for us, it is meant to be a holiday after all and we like a lie in !! Shame, because otherwise the hotel sounds pretty good and the resort also.
Thanks again for the replies.
I think you've summed things up pretty well there Crockett. One thing though, I don't think any nation drinks like the English, the Vista Badia was always very orderly, there were never any queues at the daytime bar and I never saw any rowdiness either. The last AI we went to was all English and you could never move near the bar at anytime from it opening!!!! I hope though that Pro Tour see the light and return to RO/SC or HB soon. We've packed in with towel dashing as well, it's a holiday after all and we like a lie in as well, have you tried moving a 17 year old at 10 in the morning let alone any earlier!!!
Hi, I saw the Vista Badia apartments recommended in another thread, and wondered if anyone else has stayed there? We are a family of four (children will be 11 and 7), and we normally stay in Alcudia, but always visit Sa Coma for the beach. We are looking for good apartments where we can also go half board, a nice big pool for the kids and a good atmosphere. We don't mind a good mix of nationalities, as long as we are catered for too. We like to have an apartment overlooking the pool - how likely is this and what are the ones that dont, like?
Hi shezzy ... I have merged your enquiry with this existing topic, which may provide some useful info about the complex while you wait for further feedback.
Hotel is very good and no complaints.
With regards to the pool view I suggest you either ask for a pool view when booking or prior to departure as they are much better than non-pool view. The non-pool view which is probably 50% of rooms overlooks car parks and either the Sahara/Coma Gran/AN Other !!! hotels.
Enjoy.
Dave.
I see we can use all the facilities of the other protur hotels close by and there is a small waterpark with a pool and slides and some more restaurants. Is this free to use if you are AI? What's the evening entertainment like? Do each of the hotels put something on in the evenings?
Thanks for any advice!
We (family of 2 adults and two children) are off to the protur Vista Badia hotel in Sa Coma on 13th June. I am going to email the hotel to ask for a room with a pool view and wondered if anyone who has stayed there can give me any advice on where best to ask for - which floor etc. I understand the hotel is part of a larger complex of protur hotels and between them they have access to a small water park, restaurants and other activities. Any tips or info would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Take a boat trip from the beach area to Porta Polensa etc. but remember to take sickness tablets as when we went in early September and was quite rough (although was a hot and calm day) and lots of people were being sick.
We are staying just up the road this year (next week ) in Cala Bona but would not hesitate to stay at the Vista Badia again
Thanks Sneezy. We usually stay in Alcudia, but always visit Sa Coma for a day at the beach, and for Cala Millor. We have been in the big supermarket, and I believe the hotel is just past it, but I can't remember seeing it. It all looks very nice though, and we are going AI for the first time. Just wondered what the activities were like and 'La Reserva' park.
