Timanfaya is approx 30 minutes journey , have you considered hiring a car for the day then you can take as long as needed to get there if the kids are not good travellers.

The admission does include a quided coach trip around the volcanoes and I think from memory this last about an hour.

The camel rides are also situated on the road leading to the volcanoes.

El Golfo is quite interesting for the adults and close to Timanfaya there are a few cafes and restaurants and it is a good lunch destination sat by the sea.

Just got back from Lanza today. We drove to Timanfaya ourselves and paid 8 euro per adult and 4 euro per child to enter the tourist area which included the coach trip. It's good day out, the coach trip lasts about half an hour and is really good, most people gave a round of applause at the end but seeing as most of them were German not many gave a tip.

The landscape is stunning and the audio commentary on the bus gives you some understanding of how it all happened. Most of the meat in the restaurant is cooked by natural heat eminating form the magma below.

I'm sure we've all been conned into going on hopeless coach trips when on holiday only to find ourselves at one of the drivers mates business's but this one is well worth it.
