The Sunflower guides are paperbacks - they do one for the Algarve (may be unavailable as a new edition is due but might be sourced from your library or perhaps ebay or amazon).

I can also recommend the sunflower book Landscapes of the Algarve it gives you car tours ,walks and picnic spots and is small enough to carry we have done quite a few of the walks and they have been easy to follow
