Hello everyone.
I last visited Goa some five years ago. After my first time there back in 1997 it had change A LOT, mainly for the worse with over development (especially in the north) and, dare I say it, too many who got lost on their way to an Ibizza hell hole!
I would only consider staying in the south, and I am a single traveller with a reasonable budget (£1,500 for threeks in a hotel plus flights is ok for me).
What I would like to know is if it is still good for rest and relaxation in the south. I know there will be hawkers, what I dont want is loud noise (called music??!) blaring out from shacks. No discos, no clubs or noisy bars. Just peace, quiet with nice food from decent shacks which is how I remember it. Somewhere to have a decent drink in the evening and a quiet hotel to sleep in. I do not want self catering, and have never tried a guest house, so comments on how they compare to hotels would also be very welcome.
Looking through all the forums there do seem to be some concerns, with bad behaviour from Russians mentioned, but I can't see any recent posts regarding how it is now relative to say 5-6 years ago.
Thank you for reading, and many thanks in advance for any comments.
Some of the shack owners are now opening small hotels of their own, and some of these come highly rated. Mike's, Casa de Cris, and many others I can't remember.
Beautiful stretch of beach at Mobor. About 4 shacks with, I suppose about 15 sunbeds each. Short taxi ride away from Cavelossim itself.
Benaulim will do you fine, beach sellers are banned from the beach, north of the car park is very quiet, I had 6 weeks there over xmas, and Anthy's guest house might suit you. Danny
majorda has one hotel on the beach, i think !!! and it has a lovely quiet stretch of beach,
Phantasm --- If I was u , I would probably try the Moon !!! Then again , the Russains have been their -- Maybe Mars , plenty of water their !!!
I think that Mahal has read some of Phantasm's previous posts!!!!
Also Phantasm likes perfection for his holiday, he likes to have his cake and eat it.....every day!
we have recently returned from benaulim, loved it, hardly any hawkers, and those who do aproach you go away as soon as you say no,there was no hassle.definatly a place we would return
All booked up now. Two weeks staying at Luisa by the Sea in Cavelossim, and for the first time in years I am really looking forward to going away! It looks lovely, and has several very good reviews, both here and on other travel forums. Looking forward to rather a lot of
