I've recently seen some pics on a guy's mobile phone of a Henna Tattoo gone wrong!!!
The guy's brother nearly died when his organs started to shut down and his lungs filled with fluid. The swelling on his arm was really severe and the whole area was scarlet red.
The two brothers were in Goa for a weeks holiday before Christmas, one of them had a tattoo done on the beach which was large and contained a lot of henna. Two weeks after they returned to the UK the guy got really sick and ended up in hospital for about six weeks.
The other brother has recently returned to Goa so he went to see the henna lad on the beach (Dr's had asked him to take a sample of the henna back). Apparently the young lad confessed that it wasn't henna....it was hair dye!!!
This Guy was very, very lucky. Doctors in the UK were horrified, they said that they hadn't seen anything like it.
Please be aware that Natural Henna is BROWN, not BLACK and think twice about having henna's done over here.

I had quite a bad reaction to a black henna tatoo the first time I went to Goa. Not as bad as the one you mentioned GFF, but it still was very unpleasant. My arm swelled up and scabbed where the henna was. It left me with a white mark in the design of the tatoo, which lasted for months. So be warned.

A lad from London who we used to see each year ended up having a blood transfusion when back in the UK - he was very ill for months.
I never new about the hair dye,but do know a lot of pen ink is used which gives a similar reaction.

why would anyone get a tattoo in a foreign country why? with the aids epidemic et al, booze isn't that strong as to let someone with a needle rupture your skin and give you what ever his/her last client had, lez
Henna tattoo's are not done with a needle, Henna is actually a reddie brown colour so the Black Henna is probably just chemicals, and perhaps that's why the bad reaction. Although 1000's of people have it done so I guess he was just in some way allergic to one of the chemicals....
Lez,
I wouldn't have considered getting a proper tatoo done with a needle for the reasons you mentioned but for henna they just paint the dye on to your skin. It's only meant to be temporary and last a couple of weeks. So I reckon it just depends what's in it and whether you have a reaction to it or not. Unfortunately it would appear that it gives a bad reaction to quite a lot of people.

Ive had a few henna's done on my arm and it didn't cause me a problem, but then a few years later i brought a friend to Goa and she had one done, her arm was all red and infected, had to go to the doctors back in the UK and the doctor said she was stupid for having it done in Goa.
A television programme outlining the horrors caused by henna used by Spanish tattooists/body painters last summer. Of course it wasn't henna just some cheep concoction for the tourist scams
Some of the children where scared for life their skin being burnt by chemicals, teenagers regretting the tattoo they had when drunk.
Why oh why would anyone let a perfect stranger paint their body with some unknown concoction,
Perhaps I'm just getting older.
