Yes belek is like that , i think it is because there are more ,germans ,russians ,dutch ,and french ,that the euro is used mostly there. I dont use it myself as i go there twice a year ,if you convert from this to that then you lose out on every convertion,i always stick to sterling or lira ,they soon take that when you tell them that is all you have.

It's a bit cheeky isn't it. We never use euros anyway but we usually ask how much in lira and how much in sterling then pay with whichever works out the cheapest. We do it when shopping too as there is sometimes a difference, often it is cheaper to pay in sterling which I found really annoying when I lived there as I only ever had lira.

You have to be a mathemetician these days on holiday. Be sure to take your ready reckoners with you in lire and euros!

We went to olu 2 years ago and mostly used sterling but going to bodrum area this time and wondering if i should do the same?...

I guess it will be best to take lira to pay for any trips in Olu this year then, to get the best from my money.

Our problem was that although we wanted to pay in sterling they were converting the euro price to sterling!

The only times weve ever been quoted in euros in Olu is for diving so we now pay as much as we can up front before we go. But the problem is there is always a final bill which comes in euros that I usually have to put on my credit card . Its always converted from euros to turkish lire at a not very attractive exchange rate then the card company charge again to convert the turkish lire back to pounds . this isnt a small amount and is usually a few hundred poundsfor 4 divers so it can add up substantially . shops in turkey are always happy to show you on their calculators how they are converting and I try to make good use of that making sure Im not stitched up for any more than the rate of exchange that is clearly on the dive shop wall.

for smaller items I try to pay in the currency they are quoting me in to avoid what I know is the turks way of making extra money but there are always times when I dont have the right money in the right currency so at that point I ask them to produce their little calculator that they all have and make sure its converted at the rate i can get it for in resort :tup

Ive always thought of the Med side of turkey to be more european and would of thought pricing in euros is more the norm along that part of the coast but are we now to take euros as well as sterling to Dalaman and bodrum areas

Its not only in turkey we find this .same in Egypt :(
