Hi Littlemissmalibu,

I recently got married in Mexico at the Iberostar Maya and it was a fantastic experience. Only negative for me was having to have blood tests but like everything else it was well organised. I would advise you to double check you have all the correct paperwork and that you have all the translations/apostilles in place. I imagine your tour op will have provided you with details of what you need. We went with Thomas Cook who were helpful only up until we had paid for the wedding package but the paperwork was not checked so you do need to be absolutely sure it is correct. We were also advised by our tour operator to wait until we were in resort before making any arrangements but we emailed the wedding co-ordinator at the hotel and were able to choose flowers, cake, ceremony location and time etc. before we arrived which I would recommend if you haven't done so already! We chose a 4pm ceremony as it was slighter cooler by that time of the day. We witnessed a midday wedding and the couple looked decidedly uncomfortable in the heat! We were given our certificate at the ceremony which was a bonus as we were told by TO that this would take 2-3 months.

If you have any specific questions, please ask away!

Thanks for your response Cazz,
We are struggling to get our heads around different paperwork at the mo, and seem to get different answers from different people that we ask!
Do we need to get our birth certificates translated before sending them to the Foreign and Commonwealth office, and do we send copies, originals or both? And does anything need witnessing by a solicitor?
We have booked an afternoon wedding which is as much as we know so far - we are going to try for as late as possible, my dress was bought whilst we were intending to get married in this country so probably isn't ideal for the Mexican climate but I love it too much to change now! Did you risk putting your dress in the hold or did you take it on as hand luggage?
Did you only get one copy of your wedding certificate? And have you got it translated back into English yet - if so how/where/how much??!!!
Thanks so much!

Hi! If you tell your tour operator that you're getting married you can usually have an extra luggage allowance for your dress. When we went to Mexico we found our clothes to be a little damp after being all those hours in the hold. This will be great for you, because as soon as you hang them up in the heat it has the effect of steaming and any creases fall out immediately. We stayed at the Tequila and saw 2 weddings on the beach right in front of the Yucatan. It was fabulous. In one of the weddings both the bride & groom and the guests stripped off their clothes to reveal bathing suits and ran straight into the sea. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. All three Riu's in Playacar are fab.
