I have just booked this tour for early September:
2 nights in Los Angeles, with a day trip through Orange County to San Diego then across the desert to Palm Springs, Phoenix Arizona and overnight at Fort McDowell at the heart of the the Sonoran desert, with its huge red rock formations. On to Sedona encircled by distinctive red-rock monoliths then drive through the breathtaking Oak Creek Canyon to arrive at the Grand Canyon for an overnight stay in the park. Head onwards through the Navajo Indian Reservation and the Painted Desert to Monument Valley. Overnight in Lake Powell and to the Glen Canyon Dam and into Utah to stay at Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. Then 2 nights in Las Vegas before moving onto Death Valley. Climbing high into the Sierra Nevadas to stay in the mountain resort of Mammoth Lakes then across California, with an overnight stop at Yosemite National Park, to arrive in San Francisco for 2 nights. Finally drive down the scenic Californian coastline, overnight in Pismo Beach, going on to Los Angeles for another night before flying back to the UK the following evening.
It sounds fabulous but an awful lot to take in. I just hope we get enugh time to walk around some of these amazing places as walking is our favourite pastime but with actually staying in the parks we have a better chance.
I wondered if anyone had done this and had recommendations?
Doing all the National Parks in the West, Grand Canyon, Zion, Monumuent valley etc
i think you will have enough time to do the things you want to do, be sure to research the places beforehand so you know exactly what you want to do when you are there.
We also stayed inside the actual national parks,
It was The best trip of my life!!
If you need any advice etc be sure to let me know
We travelled 4,700 miles in total and saw some amazing places, including the Grand Canyon,Bryce canyon,Arches National Park,Monument valley,Lake Powell and Mount Rushmore.
The longest we stayed in one place was for 2 nights and if I did it again I would take a lot less clothes as I had to sift though our cases every evening for clothes to wear the next day.
We travelled through 4 time zones and the weather varied from hot sunshine to snow.
