Hi Mark, yes I saw your list, but what is it that you wanted me to say about them ?.
do you approve
Hello Mark,
I live in the Bolton area but one of my locals sells Adnams Broadside and Green King Abbot. Not a bad brew for southerners

you get alot of Timothy Taylor's Landlord around there, don't you ? A fine example of a Northern beer
Hi Mark, yes I fully approve of your choice of beers, M&N is the pub you talk of The Sweet Green Tavern by any chance, me & Mrs Sliema2 were in the Hen & Chickens on Bradshaw gate Saturday lunch time, they had some nice real ales on in there and very good they all were too.
Caw for now

Thanks for the replies everyone, interesting reading
I guessed that Sliema2 would have the longest list.
Where are you getting that fruit wine from? What is it called? I have only ever tasted it at a Gozo wedding. Obviously it was already poured into glasses so I didn't see the label on the bottle, thought it might have been homemade in Gozo.

Hi Mark, Moorhouse brewey is near Burnley, there beers are fantastic especially the Black Cat mild which was champion beer of britain a few years ago, it's really rich and creamy with liqourice flavours yummy beer, Ingliza I have my sources in Sliema for the fruit wines, it originates in Birzzebugia and there are numerous flavours available including, Cherry, Carob, Almond, Lemon, Strawberry, Herb, Apricot, Mulled, White Port, Ruby Port, and probaly others that I can't think of at present, we have tried them all at some stage and at LM1.25 per bottle are very nice indeed, we always bring a variation of about 10 bottles back with us and we still have loads from our last visit.

So are these of the homemade bottled in any old recycled spirits bottles without labels variety or are they a particular brand?
I am enjoying the beer talk
Took my Maltese husband Here on his first visit to the area I am originally from, to sample the Owd Roger Ale

Hi Ingliza, they are of the rustic type you mention, but with a sticky label on the front describing what the wine is, ie, carob, lemon etc, they remind me a bit of the old farmers wines you used to be able to buy off the vegetable hawkers only not as dangerous.

Owd Roger - another classic beer !
Hello Mark & Sliema2
The Sweet Green Tavern and The Hen and Chickens are frequented by myself and friends as both of these pubs have some excellent beers on offer. In fact I think the Hen and Chickens may be CAMRA pub of the year or region?. The pub that I had mentioned though was the Rose and Crown (Ainsworth) nr Bolton. they have fine ales such as Greene King, Old Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale.
All this talk of fine ales is doing me no good I could just down a nice pint now

Hi M&N, we had a fine lunchtime in The Hen and Chickens Saturday dinner time, we always go in there whenever we are in Bolton which is quite a bit as Mrs Sliema2 loves shopping there we also like The Howcroft, we always have lunch in Rice and Three Asian cafe and it is without doubt the nicest Asian food we have ever eaten, highly reccomended.

hi there everyone
ingliza i have been to the royal standard of england mant times as it is quite close to where i live, good beer and good wine.
i remember years ago going to the local village wine shop with my bottle and the ancient lady used to fill it up from a great big barrel. there was never a name on it and it tasted differant everytime. but was it strong ,i used to do what the maltese do and dilute it with seven up. i suffered many a hangover from it. i stick to beer these days, don't want too much brain damage

Sliema2,
You certainly have a knack of finding the best drinking and eateries in any given area! I'll have to practice this art.
