Quite a few topics have run their course so i thought i would start a new one..
what MUST you do on a holiday?
Well Rob insists on scuba diving somewhere.. he has to explore the marine life and we have to find a diving centre.....
He also insists on hiring a car so we can explore every little nook and cranny ( even though in the Canaries we have explored every little nook and cranny again and again..we still love it so we still do it)
Gav insists on having new football shirts.. we try to collect shirts wherever we go. He will not buy the english ones ( he won't be seen dead in anything other than a Liverpool shirt) but he has at least 8 foreign team shirts plus umpteen more old ones that he has well grown out of now ( i keep saying i will frame them and he can have them on his bedroom wall but i never get round to it ). Because there are so many fake ones about, we usually end up trogging everywhere to get an authentic one.
I like to sample as many of the local fresh fish dishes as i possibly can, and equally, i generally like to try sea fishing or at least a boat trip out to sea. I also insist on getting as many photo's of everything as i can ( even 3 shots of the same view ) I also like to explore a local market ( which drives Rob and the boy mad) and pick up silly little nick nacks that are cheap and cheerful.. crazy, i know.. but they are fond reminders of a holiday..
Katie likes to try as many swimming pools as she can find, and also hopes she will make a nice friend (she has made some lovely ones). She also wants to do camel riding again.
Hubby, we`ll sometimes I`m not sure!!! He just goes with the flow. Very, very laid back.
This year though I want to learn to water-ski (have always had an incling at the back of my mind, but don`t like cold water! off to El Gouna in Egypt in 8 days so my logic is the sea will be warmer) we may even go in search of a pyramid! ... but not sure about that one yet!
We also like to try new restaurants and local food, at Whit we went half board for the first time in years and it was horrible, we were all bored by the 3rd day but there was no village or town to go to so we were stuck.
I must also sample the local liquor/wine/beer.
If I'm not having a gulet holiday I must have a boat trip of some description.
Apart from that I must relax as much as possible, have one or two days of sightseeing only, avoid 'going shopping' (not my idea of fun - though whilst wandering around in the evening I may look into the odd one or two shops).
Must try and find at least one 'holiday song', this year the crew on the gulet in Turkey burned us all a CD of the tunes they had been playing all week - superb.
Oh and a must not. Drive. I don't go on holiday to drive anywhere.
A boat trip , glass bottomed etc. This year we went on a romantic sunset cruise (with our 2 teenage boys ) I wouldn't say it was romantic but it was great fun .
plan-a lie on beach or by pool soaking up sun and reading good book, with occassional swim to cool off
plan-b if weather is lousy it is shopping/eating/drinking and siesta
nightime
plan-a wander round resort calling in shops/bars/restaurants and generally seeing what is round next corner, unless going somewhere specific like a show
plan-b if raining stay in hotel or local bar and get pleasantly ********
I HAVE to have a massive ice-cream with sparklers etc on a busy street where I can people watch!
i like to chill out by the pool with a beer in 1 hand and a fag in the other watching my kids mess around bugging everyone and the misses saying cant you go and play with the kids so i can chill out and i say no im on my holiday you sort them out ha ha ha
You sound like a bloke who needs a slappin Your wife is just as entitled to do nowt as you are or are you one of these "I've worked all year for this, it's your (wifes) job to look after the kids.
Male chauvinist pig!
Whether the last post was meant as tongue in cheek or an attack on the previous poster, I'm not sure about.

It was ment tongue in cheek, but your right, humour and sarcasm do not travel well via print
My other 'must' is buying: a keyring, a lighter, an ashtray, a shot glass and a fridge magnet from everywhere I go Yes I know it's a load of tat, but at least the shot glasses come in handy on those dark winter nights too
Read as many books (like Katiesmum) while getting a tan. I'm obsessed with going home with a good tan.
We like to hire a car so as we can see a bit of the area and do our own thing rather than go on trips.
Good food is very important too and we like themed nights/shows for the kids.
I like to get a couple of mugs to bring home too
The only thing I always make sure i do, is to make the most/best of everything. If something goes wrong I just deal with it and get past it.
me: lie in the sun trying to get some colour (I am Scottish so it is a big challenge with my skin!) and drink some cocktails, ideally on the beach, during the day, very decadent!
my fiance: lying in the shade though he likes to get a bit of colour as well but can't cope with the heat too well, going in the water lots
both of us: snorkelling, playing beach games, exploring local area and finding the best bars and restaurants and finally afternoon snoozes, sad but true!! aren't holidays the best?! oh, we are also both big readers.
cheers
MsH
Trying the local cuisine, I dont eat much meat so coastal places are best with their fish dishes.
Hire a motorbike to sightsee the places they dont show you on the tours
Go on a boat trip
Go snorkelling at least every other day!!
I'm not a sunbather but I must have at least one day to just laze about, chill out and read.
I must try new something new to eat.
I must go somewhere different each year and we like to get out and about and see as much of the surrounding area as we can.
I must get a nice bit of sun so I can come back looking healthy and tanned.
I must get a nice bit of sun so I can come back looking healthy and tanned.
I must sit on the balcony with glass of wine/cocktail in my hand and watch the sun set
I think that they are two of my "musts" as well.
I also must buy at least one new outfit to wear and one new book to read for my holiday.
I must also try to enjoy myself no matter what the weather.
