I am all in a muddle!
We've (me, hubby & 2 sons) have usually done beach holidays, so the packing has always been quite easy, so much so, I don't even think about it!
But we've never been to Florida, and I am now panicing about what to pack (we go in 3 weeks). I am not going overboard on the toilteries and things - just going to get those over there - and I am not going to live in bikini's and skimpy shorts (walking around a pool is one thing, enflicting that sight on Mickey Mouse is another!)
And as for going out clothes.... I can't see us going out that much in the evenings, as I am sure the children will be shattered after being dragged around the parks during the day!
Aaarrrrggghhhh!!
Hubby reckons that we buy everything over there, and be done with it. If only it was that simple!
Personally I would get your stuff bought here before you go. If you only have a couple of weeks you don't want to feel you need to trail round the shops when you could be having fun. I like the shopping in Florida but I wouldnt want the pressure of needing to find clothes before I could hit the theme parks.
You dont say when you are going, but if its in warmish weather, all you need is shorts, t shirts and comfy shoes. Most of the restaurants will welcome you in casual clothing and unless you are going for fine dining or the like, you wont need anything else.
You can buy a poncho type thing in the theme parks if it turns wet.

clothes wise pack as much light thin clothing as you like because its hot hot and very humid
I personally agree with your husband. Go with the bare minimum as its so cheep that you will need the luggage allowance for your return!!
We take enough clothes for 2 days when we go (5x nearly) and buy the rest there.
Dont take beach towels, the hotels provide towels for around the pools which are fresh clean towels and also keep down on the weight in suit cases.
Have fun, its very addictive though!!
Liz.

Hi, I would just take the bare minimum and buy when you get there, Florida has loads of discount shopping malls..it's taken me 3 trips to America to convince me but I have now been won over by USA shopping!
Of course, the exchange rate is very favourable for us Brits...
The mall will be a break from the theme parks, you'll need it. Florida is very casual for dining but I would take 1 going out outfit to set you up.

Thanks for the replies!
We've reached a compromise. I am going to pack (and shop for!) some basic bits & pieces for the first few days of the holiday, and then go shopping on the 'rest days' as hubby calls them - little does he know
The children are currently putting together their packing lists... and I am crossing off the non essiential items, such as Junior Monopoly!

I would say don't take loads you can buy things so cheaply in the USA + most motels etc have washing machines for around $1.5 dollars If you do get caught short!!!
We went last Oct took 2 cases came back with 4 full of bargains!!!!

When we go my jusband goes to Primark and buys lots of cheap T Shirts socks etc then leaves them there.
It does go against the grain but its just £2.00 a t shirt. He then fills the cse with new designer clothes that he could not afford over here.
We have enough for 5 days each and then will buy more out there. Taking my own washing tablets but plan to wash while we swim as the laundry is at the pool.
Don,t pack to much, came back last week and had to buy a new case,

We go to america every year. Always take just the one bag between 4 of us and come back with 4 very full ones which we have to weigh to make sure we are within our weight limits. Enjoy yourselves
going to florida in october. spending a week in orlando, 4 nights in key largo then 4 nights in miami. im gonna take as little with me as possible, drive straight to either premium outlets or belz factory outlet after checking in the motel and go wild with the ralph lauren lol.
You wont need clothes for night dining is very casual and the shopping is so reasonable i would take a minimum amount and buy over there be careful with your limit on the way back saw people getting charged for excess baggage last year.Love Florida but having a year off 2 years in a row hubby says he needs a rest this year will miss shopping have loved been able to get clothes at affordable prices tommy hilfiger, levis, nike etc are at the premium outlets.Beltz was getting done up when we were there so dont know what it will be like this year they had a universal discount store and disney as do the premium outlets,we cant drive but got around on the i ride and with the hotel shuttle happy shopping
Hi - we go to florida every year (6 imature childless 30+ year olds. just take the bare minimum - During the day with the theme parks i live in my shorts and sandals and crops tops and then at night i tend to change to a smarter pair of shorts. Eating out in florida is very casual and relaxed. When it rains (and believe me it does!!!) buy a cheap umberella - however even with the rain - it is also ridiculously hot and only lasts bout an hour if that. Dont forget if you are buying loads to to take the labels off!! Have a fantastic time - once you have been you will get the florida bug and will want to go back year in year out. x
