We've booked an allocation on arrival deal flying to Dalaman, accommodation specified as a 4 star self-catering apartment. I'm guessing we will end up in Marmaris or Icmeler, although I suppose Dalyan or somewhere else is also a possibility.
What should we expect for a 4 star self-catering apartment in Turkey?
Not that we will be cooking full meals, but I would presume there should be a fridge, cooking rings, kettle, utensils etc.
Should a safety deposit box and air conditioning included in the price?
How about a TV to watch BBC world and strange continental game shows?
Thank you.
Looks like wait and see im afraid, Turkish hotels dont use stars, Only the Holiday companies use them and most of the time it's to the Companies advantage.
Shouldn't imagine air conditioning or safety deposit included in the price.
Certainly in a 4 star hotel anyway.
Hope this helps.
I've used 4 star apartments in Portugal and Cyprus and they have both included air conditioning at no extra charge.
I did stay 5 star in Turkey once (got a very good deal when the gulf war was kicking off!) and that included air conditioning, a safe and satellite TV in the room at no extra charge.
The good thing about going allocation on arrival for this trip is the lower price, but of course we can't look up the description of where we are staying. I'm just trying to be clear about what to expect and to know whether to challenge if the apartment is not really of 4 star standard.
On the subject of Turkey not giving official star ratings, it's actually a 4A rating. The My Travel website says "AAAA = good standard of accommodation and facilities". However "good standard" seem somewhat open to interpretation to me.
Cheers.
mytravel only seem to have a couple of AAAA rated SC apartments on their site Club Julian Apartments in Marmaris and Julian Forrest in Icmeler according to what included in these apartments the only thing payable locally was TV and Safety deposits boxes.

A quick search shows that both of those places seem to get good customer reviews. However, I think it said in the small print that we may end up somewhere that doesn't feature in ther brochure...
Cheers.
Random Number teach me to read posts properly. I said i didn't think air con would be included thinking that if the brochure didn't say so then it would be extra. On rereading i see that it's allocation on arrival I'm having a bad few days I would then expect air con but not the safety deposit box.
Random Number, I agree with you regarding the Tour operators own ratings, They just use there own ratings, Really in Turkey the standard of Accomadation is very very good, Take my word for it I have used 14 different accomadations in the last 4 years and all have been perfect to my own needs.
I received the confirmation invoice today together with some "information" about allocation on arrival accommodation. It's not exactly reassuring as they do lay it on a bit thick! Most of the wording seems to be reasons why you shouldn't select allocation on arrival e.g. you can end up practically anywhere, quite possibly accommodation not featured in their brochures with no guarantee of use of the normal facilities (which doesn't sound sustainable to me).
Hopefully they are just trying to cover themselves against unreasonable customers and we will end up in one of their listed 4A rated apartments (or an acceptable alternative) in a resort...
Hi Random . you could end up in the opposite direction from Dalaman too . Maybe olu Deniz (although dont think there are any self catering there) Hisaronu or Ovacik or maybe Calis .
Where will I end up?
Marmaris
Icmeler
Dalyan
Fethiye
Hisaronou
Göcek
Kalkan
Kas
Calis
Olu Deniz
Or (for the really long odds) Patara
Any other suggestions?
Then the Airtours brochure should give a breakdown of what their rating score is and what you can expect as this is THEIR rating.
No chance to wait for response as going to bed now for 4.00 am taxi to manchester

The Airtours website is also somewhat vague:
"Our 'A' ratings are awarded by specially trained Airtours staff, based on such criteria as the public area furnishings, food and drink outlets, room and leisure facilities and service. They range from AA for simple accommodation and few, if any, amenities to AAAAA offering the highest quality and level of service."
Cheers.
7/2 Marmaris
10/1 Icmeler
66/1 Barr
Backed 4 winners out of 6 races at Musselburgh yesterday hope my luck holds up.
Lynn
my bet is club julian in marmaris!!
Although my lack of gambling knowledge is probably showing because I'm scratching my head about "66/1 Barr"
Cheers.
I will go for Julian Forest in Icmeler, I think I remember other AOAs turning up there. Very nice apparently.
