Krabi or Phuket

have to say if I could get away in December I would love to go to both those destinations. A friend of mine went to Phuket this last Xmas. I had wondered if she might find it too sad as so many people would have been going on a pilgrimage for the 1st anniversary of the tsunami. However, she loved it. ( She did speak to one or two who had survived the tsunami and had interesting stories). If you have time you might consider staying at both. Krabi would be the quieter part of your holiday.
You will find the standard of accomodation to be high compared with Goa. We can fork out for 4 or 5 star and pay relatively little. Of course this may not be the case if your stay is over Xmas as prices are always hiked up then.
What would you be looking for in your holiday apart from the weather?

A word of warning if you are thinking of going at the Xmas period, it can be very exspensive and does get booked up quickly. You might wish to consider Khao Lak as well which is an hour north from Phuket airport on the main land. It got hit the worst by the tsunami but recovery continues apace.

There are a whole host of islands near Krabi that have tourist accomodation on them...Phi-Phi, Koh Racha and Koh Lanta being some of the more well known. I was in Krabi and Phuket this March, there was very little evidence that the tsunami had taken place.

I have visited both Phuket and Krabi at Xmas - weather was absolutely fantastic at both.

Thank you for your replies We will be back before christmas as my birthdays is the 11th Dec and our 25th Anniversary is on the 18th(2007) i think we will look at Krabi if that is a little quieter. We just got back from Mexico so thats why late in answering and may I just say Riu Hotels are the best .
