Hi everyone
I have been going to Icmeler now for many years and quite fancy a change.
I am a wheelchair user and need somewhere flat (Icmeler suits us fine for this reason).
Can anyone recommend anywhere flat with a nice town centre.
Also can anyone recommend a really nice S/C apartment not too basic.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you
Barb
Hope this helps a little.
Turgutreis is wonderful for wheelchair users and their partners (helpers)..............Part of the main drag is pedestrianised, so no traffic to negotiate.
The main walkway from where the La Blanche hotel is, is well paved, over looks the beach and takes you directly into the main town.
There is a good harbour to look around, and lots of shops and bars.
A little peaceful area behind the harbour, with seats and trees and toilets too, (small charge here) easy walking.
Not very high pavements on the main drag, once near the market however, there are a couple of bumpy bits, but if you take the side routes, then it is flat and quite a good comfortable distance between each shop front.
Easy access to the beach going up towards the town, across from "Cool Breeze" cafe bar, there is a little walkway leading to the beach, and the cafe hires out sun loungers too, and keeps the beach area very clean.
In the other direction, past the Aegean Dreams hotel, it is still part pedestrianised but a little steeper, although access is still ok.
A place to recommend, I can hint at a couple, but we always stay AI, so maybe someone else can help better than I, but a couple to look at anyway.
The Select White. It has a good location, has free sunloungers and Parasols, plus a bar and beach bar, plus 2 restaurants.
It is a B&B hotel, and the reason I thought it may suit, is it has french windows in the rooms, so a wheelchair would be able to sit on the balcony with no problems. It is a small comfortable hotel with 57 rooms.
Ilknur Apartments. Good location, short walk into the town, good sea views, and it gets excellent reviews.
One of the pools is rooftop, but, this may mean more room around the main pool. Rooms look sizeable and comfortable, and again is a good size.
This one is SC.
Not much of a choice I know, but it's a start. I am sure others will give you a wider range to choose from.
I think you would love this region of Turkey, people are friendly and the sunsets are wonderful.
My husband uses a battery scooter and have been to a few places in Turkey but our absolute favourite is Bitez and the Sah Hotel. Only 12 rooms Deluxe room on ground floor and from front entrance right onto the main promenade and beach. Not a noisy resort plenty restaurants and a few shops but heavenly! Check this out.
I would agree that Bitez would be an ideal resort for a wheelchair user as it is so flat and everything is set along the main pedestrianised paved beach front.
Can you give me info about where you stayed in Icmeler. We have been to Icmeler and stayed at Panorama Park ACT hotel it is a specialist wheelchair hotel . We enjoyed our stay but would prefere a wheelchair accesible and room more in town
We have stayed several places in Icmeler all wheelchair accessible.
The best and most expensive is Marti La Perla. Its right on the prom and runs alongside the canal. There is a lift which makes access to the rooms OK. When I say 'best' thats because its AI and the food is good.
At the other end of the scale we last stayed at Kurt apartments (for peanuts). 1 bed apartment we requested (by email) on the ground floor was saved for us. Thats a little way out of the town but although the apartments are basic they are kept lovley and clean and the ladies who do the cleaning/washing etc are brilliant. The food is OK but as there are so many places to eat out we only ate there a couple of times. They also do a Turkish evening which was lovley.
We have stayed at Private hotel which was OK but nothing spacial similarly Selen 2 was OK.
If you wanted to book your flights and accommodation seperately check out 'Great Late Deals' for apartments - you will be surprised at the prices.
Hope this has been of interest to you. Contact me again if you need any more help - its no trouble.
Barb
many thanks for the info Barb
