It may seem like a dumb question but it's got me concerned.
We are due to fly from Manchester to LHR with BA and then on to Luxor with Egypt air - the holiday has been booked as a package through Thomas Cook, I've since found out that BA and Egypt air are not flying partners (BMI are with Egypt air).
On getting the invoice, they have only allowed 2 hours to connect from T5 to T3 at LHR - even a small delay would be a disaster - we can't even use flight connections between the two.
So apart from the fact that we won't have luggage checked through, does this mean that it's not a connecting flight in the true sense and if we were delayed from Manchester we would have big problems? Would Egypt air even be aware that we were arriving on a connecting flight or would we just be classed as no shows?
There aren't flights to Luxor every day which would mean going via Cairo the next day - meaning we would lose more than 24 hours in Luxor - we're only there for 4 days and have a lot to cram in although I won't be making any tour bookings for the first morning just in case.
I have been trying to get Thomas cook on the phone ( unsuccesfully) and will have to wait till my next day off to get into the travel agents and ask for an earlier flight from Manchester - the one we have been booked onto is the last one that would get us there in time, so I would ideally like a safety net of 2 flights before the latest time.
It's the last time I book a package , I've always done it all myself before but with multiple internal flights I assumed it would be easier with an agent!
By definition, your flights are connecting flights as in you are flying from one airport to another, in order to catch the next one. However, they aren't connecting in the sense that you get off one and straight on to the other. Because you are flying with airlines who aren't partners in one of the alliences (eg One World), you'll have to collect your luggage, transfer from T5 to T3, then check-in for your onward flight. 2 hours is pushing it if I'm honest. You should have enough time to transfer, but you'll have to make your way over as quickly as possible. If there is a delay on your initial flight, or transfering terminals resulting in you missing your next flight, I'm sure Egypt Air will do their best to put you on the next available flight. However, that depends on availability and when the next flight it. Information on flight connects is available on Heathrows website. Further advice is available on the Heathrow thread.

Also Egyptair and BA will do there very best to get you to your final destination as soon as they can if your flight is delayed. In the past if ive ha a tight connection ive gone to the airport in time for the earlier flight and asked the airline if they have space and can i get on it. You will be surprised how many times ive been allowed to get on the earlier flight. Does not always work, but worth a try.
