i think out of all of Salou, the thing that lets it down slightly for me, is the lack of choice of good restaurants. Sure there are plenty of them dotted about - but they were all a bit samey and a bit touristy.

I didnt really find one I particularly liked. In the end we went most evenings to The Orient Express (I think it was called) near Kiss bar on Carrer Buigas.

Their set menu which was not bad was 7.95 euros for a three course meal which you couldnt fault. Thats what, about six quid. Cant grumble at that.

However what we did enjoy was tapas and raciones at some of the bars in the old town, nearer the station.

Danny Boys is excellent for food. Very good value for money. We went for food last 2 day of our holiday, and wished we had went sooner!

Would also recommend lorenzos italian which is located in the shopping precinct.

The Guinness Tavern is superb, its near the Hotel Las Vegas & Hotel Caspel. In my opinion its the best food in Salou, and the amount of people that are always there makes me think I'm not alone.

:D we got back on the 25th june and found a good place for an evening meal was buddies. the burgers are huge and the portions are humungus. couldn't finish it. every plate that came out of the kitchen was massive with loads on it. it's on the road from the seafront towards the oo7 pub and past the big roundabout, on the left. if you fancy it and you find it, enjoy!!!

:D buddies did have chicken strips and burgers. most restuarants have a kids menu with loads on them, some with a free juice. one down from the california gardens hotel on the opposite side had a kids menu with someone who sits and paints faces. ideal for the kids

:D hi i stayed at the salauris palace in the centre of salou. portaventura was 5-10 minutes up the road and 5-10 minutes to the shops. cap salou is quite hilly, especially if you have a wheelchair and a pushchair, i personally would have opted for the resort centre. there are buses and taxis and the little train that go into cap salou,i would ask the travel agent where the apartments are as regards to location, when we were there we went along to cap salou to see old friends in the med village and i had a look for the vancouver apartments and couldn't see them, as i knew people who were going there. hope this helps you.the glass bottom boat, i'm sure, is along at cambrils. haven't been on it. barcelona is brilliant sightseeing and tarragona is nice too. hope you have a good holiday

For traditional spanish tapas go up to the marina then turn right and explore the little streets and passageways behind the main road. Theres loads of small bars all with good food.

Having been to Salou for the last three years each time self catering I can hearty recommend the following eateries:

For Breakfast Try The Vines or The Cottage both of which are near Europa Plaza

For main meals Again try the Vines, The Rio Grand which has excellent steaks, mixed grills etc and also try Danny Boy where all the food is of an excellent quality and offers a good range of childrens meals. One word of warning however they do charge 2 euros for sauces and extras so if you have something like steak, chips, onions and gravy you will paid 4 euros about the price shown in the menu although this charge is also displayed. and by the way for those of you with a sweet tooth I can certainly recommend the hot chocolate fudge cake or apple pie with ice cream. My waistline will testify to how much I enjoyed one or the other of those on more than one occasion.

Hi,

We just got back from Salou on Monday.

The local road train into Salou/Port Aventura costs 2.50 flat rate for adults for any single journey. There is only one train out of 3 that goes to Cap Salou but sometimes not at all. When we were coming back from Port Aventura the guy went to everyone saying they were not going to Cap Salou.

Regarding food, the Fox and Hounds was good and there was something for everyone - even a vegitarian menu. They don't charge extra for sauces either. I personally recommend their caramel lumpy bumpy cake for pudding! I wasn't particularly keen on the Orient Express by Kiss, I went for a meal one night with my boyfriend and a couple of hours later we both had gippy stomachs.

The Boat House Pub/Bar just opposite the street where Holiday's is towards the Avenida Park hotel is fabulous. Ok Service is a bit slow but worth the wait. Prawn Cocktail Salad and Garlic Bread is just so scrummy and is great for a lunch which lasts you late into evening.
