Thinking of going to Bankok next year and then on to one of the islands, been looking at Krabi and Koh Samui, we want good beaches and nightlife but noy too busy and tacky any recommendations would be apreciated.

You will get a feel for the various islands. Also if you want a beach which does not require a plane from Bangkok have a look at Hua Hin and Cha Am. Best to decide which destination you like best and then you can decide the best time to go.
Everyone has their favourites so it is difficult to recommend without a more of an idea of what you want. For instance- are you going as a family? Age? What do you want from your holiday- total relaxation, retail therapy, site seeing, local culture etc.
