Hi people! I'm 19 yo girl traveling solo to Barcelona soon. I finally narrowed my mind and I'm choosing between Gothic Point, Sea Point, and maybe San Fernando Hostel.
First of all, I cannot live in a dirty place. Cleanness (esp. bed and hot pressure shower) is the most important factor when I choose a place to live. Please don't get me wrong. I don't expect hostels to be 5 star hotels or anything. I've stayed several hostels in New York so I know what I should expect. I was okay in most of the hostels but there were places where I didn't feel like taking off my clothes in bed or even taking a shower because of insanitation.
And then location. I like going to out, to clubs or bars at night. Because there are no tube running at night, less frequent night buses and expensive cabs, I want to stay pretty close to those areas.
Actually as long as I can get a clean, somewhat central locationed and not that expensive bed, I don't really care about noise, rude staff, bad breakfast, etc.
VÃÂÂÂa Laietana seems so cool because of its location but I heard it's kinda dirty. (No offense. I just have no idea) Gothic Point is like an alternative(?) to VÃÂÂÂa Laietana. Is it clean? I'm just wondering if it's walkable distance to the center or if there are frequent (and maybe convenient) transportation.
Now I sound so picky. It's not that I'm looking for a "perfect place" to stay...but I just want this to be detailed. So I really need your help please. How do you think those hostels? How was your experience? Or do you have any other recommendations? I just want to hear many opinions and get the general ideas. Thank you so much!!!
I know the first two hostels you mention. Gothic Point is a good one, the location is really nice,...you will be very near from Via Laietana (which is an avenue full of beautiful buildings) and you can walk to the main places: (this place is near of everything) Picasso Museum, lots of bars, the Cathedral, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, the sea.... I recommend you to walk in the Casc Antic (all the streets near the Cathedral).. Plaza Sant Jauma...
The other one... is Sea Point.. THis hostel is really nice if you like the beach. It is located near the port, lots of restaurants (specially sea food.. paellas.. etc).. The Catalonian Museum.. I believe this place is smaller than Gothic Point... But both of them are nice.
You can check their webs.. I remember they were not expensive...
Good luck
Which was clean, all rooms had en-suite and just of Las Ramblas.
No TV though, and basic decor, but perfect if you don't mind that.

Go to Sea Point..The facilities there are fantastic. They are new, clean, and everything works! It was great being so close to the beach (especially in the middle of summer) and you're only about ten minutes away from the center of town.
Also recommend Sea Point Hostel.. Great place, near the beach, nice weather (may...june.. ) Cheap and clean.
