Easyjet have started doing flights to Corfu. I have just bagged a bargain for the start of the kids summer holidays.
My next question is, where to go, which resort and accommodation.
My wife and I have just turned 40 so we do not feel particularly old, with that in mind our nightclub boots have been firmly hung up as staying out to 6 in the morning is not on the agenda.
Our 2 boys are 14 and10. We are not a family that goes to bed early to get up in the morning, we are all more like lazy teenagers, eating about 10 ish then getting home about 1 to 2 in the morning after a few beers.
It would be ideal if the accommodation was located 10mins or so from the centre to get away from all the noise at night.
I was looking at Sidari, it seems to cater for families with beaches, pools etc plus has a decent array of bars and clubs to keep the night alive if one wishes, without all the 18-30 moo harky.
I was thinking about the Orestis Apartments (2 bedroom apartments) reasonably priced but cannot find a great deal of reviews on the net Not even sure where they are in Sidari? If someone knows it would help.
Or maybe somewhere in the Canal D'Amour area.
Can any one tell me if I am on the right track as far as resort is concerned, and/or accommodation tips? If not can you suggest other resort/accommodation.
I would be most grateful
Thanks
Hi
Now you no doubt get alot of arguments for and against Sidari. I can only tell you as I know it.
I have been going to Sidari since 1991. My daughter and I went when she was 21 years old and had the best holiday ever. My partner and I now go every year, we too are not overly into discos etc. I am 51 and he is 36 and we both love Sidari. There are plenty of bars, restuarants, shops etc and we also spent time in an internet cafe to keep in touch with my daughter as she was pregnant last year. There is always plenty to do, the beaches are ok although you may hear some say they are dirty. We found a really nice small beach which got cleaned every day but a young girl who rents out the deck-chairs etc. Sidari is also going through a clean-up at the moment. New drain pipes were starting to be laid last year and hopefully will have been finished by the time the new season starts.
I would say that Sidari is an ideal place for most ages but that it is also up to us to make our holiday and own fun.
Canal d'mor is like an extension of Sidari with its own little village of shops tavernas etc along with some lovely sandy beaches.
Hope this helps you
hi.. if you use the blue navigation bar at the top of this page you can click on resort reports and or hotel reports and read what the members think.. it may broaden your horizons
i have stayed at the takis apartments these are basic but clean , my parents stayed at the aspasia again basic but clean both around a ten min walk in to town. takis do have two bed apartments.
i also stayed at goudelis nice apartments but a good work in to sidari.
I can recomend the apartments below. They're in Roda, which is close to Sidari, but smaller and not quite as 'lively'. Althought it has more than enough bars and restaurants to choose from, and a great beach. Any other info, just ask.
Hi. Sorry, I can't comment on Sidari as I haven't been there but I'd like to recommend Kassiopi if you're open to suggestions. My husband and I stayed ther 2 years ago (both in our 40's) and had a great holiday. It was a typical Greek village but had plenty to keep us amused. There wasn't a particularly splendid beach but there was a cove or two and the harbour was beautiful, offering a variety of boat trips. We particularly enjoyed the night boat into Corfu town. There were ample bars and restaurants to try a different one every night if you wanted. Either Greek style or a couple of music bars with Karaoke, quizes etc. We were Self catering and stayed in the Dimas Studios overlooking the harbour. It had a huge pool with a fantastic view over the harbour. Good Luck in deciding.
kalami is a beautiful quiet resort with a few tavernas bars etc.
I would agree with blodwynpig Kalami is great if you just want to unwind, you have the a+a apts which have there own entertainment and there seem plenty to do for the kids, as my lads 13 and just wanders off to the beach to use the boat rings or canoes or just to swim in the sea, there are only 3 taverna`s in the village but there are others in the next bay but you can either walk to them or get a free boat ride to them (when booked through the taverna)
I first went to Sidari 4 years ago as a holiday rep and have never left! I am now engaged to a greek and we are opening a snack bar in Canal D'amour this May. Here is my review of Sidari;
The centre of Sidari is lovely in the day time, nice restaurants and the usual souvenir shops. In the evening, beware of the PR's on the streets trying to drag you into their bars! After 1am, beware of the 18 - 30's - although it is nowhere near the likes of Kavos and Agia Napa!
Sidari Beach is nice, quite wide, and shallow, with good watersports. The Greeks are quite laid back and sometimes do not clean the beach for the start of May. The watersports are quite good too. The view of the rocks of Canal D'amour at the end of Sidari beach make it quite picturesque.
Now, you may think i am biased but if i was to book a holiday to sidari knowing what i know, i would book to be in Canal D'amour. It is 15 mins walk from the centre, which means it is not too noisy at night, and if you have your evening meal in the centre it is a lovely stroll back, not down any unlit roads, no need for a torch there! Plus, the tiny inlets of beaches at Canal D'amour are more beautiful and often less crowded than the main beach, and there is a short cut just after the rocks onto the main beach.
Also perfect for a family with older teenagers who want the nightlife. My Sister and her family (boys of 4 and 6) have been coming for the last 2 years and love it.
The transfer from the airport is one hour if driving straight, a taxi should be approx 60euro. The transfer can be upto 2hrs if many drop offs on a coach, but with the added advantage of seeing Sidari as you drive through it on the way to Canal D'amour.
Hope this helps! I am happy to answer any specific questions about Sidari / Corfu.
i went to sidari a few years ago, and in my opinion it is one of the best places to go! we stayed in the (then) recently refurbished sidari water park appartments. it was a small complex, with 3 pools, water slides, bar, restuarant, everything you could ask for. it was quite nice because although it was out of the way of the main strip of sidari, it was a nice walk both in the day and night.. not a long walk.. id say about 5 minutes. i can fully recommend sidari. its fab!
hope you enjoy!
I think Dassia is the best place in Corfu, Great Shakes bar is fantastic! We had 2 weeks there a couple of years ago and went to great shakes every night, Ken (the owner) & all his staff are brilliant, it is a real family pub, karaoke, bingo, quizzes etc & the atmosphere.......... brilliant. They remember your names too, we saw loads a people retuning for the umpteenth time & all the staff ran from behind the bar to welcome them, Eliana or Mirabello are good hotels to stay in - just up the hill (though it is called cardiac hill!!! but you soon get used to it)5 minutes from all shops, bars, restaurants etc.We had a fantastic time and we are going again this september.
Look on the website greatshakescorfu.com

Hope this helps!
We all love it here, go for a meal then at Lagoon where we stay, they have entertainment every night, from quiz's, kareoke, bingo, killer pool etc, its not typical greek, but we like it and we all like different things dont we, all the staff at Lagoon are brillient, and friendly and will do anything for you, lovely people and all have worked there for years, although Paul and Maria have left, so I have been told and replaced, so I will miss them this year, but still cannot wait to go back, after about 11pm the main road obviously does get busy, english do try to get you into the pubs, but they do not pester you at all, we go in a few and stay for a few hours and my 6 year old loves it then we go back to our apartments bar and as I say they have entertainment every night and so does the Mimosa I think. We booked with First Choice am not sure who Mimosa is through, but both worth checking out.
Hope this helps
Tina
