I'm after a bit of inspiration please.
We're looking for a 2 week holiday in March 2007 but can't decide. Its for me, my step-dad and mum. We've been to Cuba (Gaurdalavaca and Varadero), Dom Rep, St Lucia, and had flying visits to Jamaica and Barbados. We were planning on going somewhere different and heading for the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. However, checking on the weather data for that time of year, its not the best time to visit the island. We're a bit stuck at the moment since we'd rather go somewhere different than re-visit the same place. I did suggest the Maldives but its too quiet for them.
Our budget is around £1,500 each and we'd be looking for a 4/5* all inclusive. The oldies like a beach, evening entertainment and a few places to visit while they're their. For me its a simple case of having a dive centre in the area and preferably half decent snorkelling. Apart from that, I'm not too fussed apart from a window seat on the plane!
Anyone got any suggestions on where to try next since we're out of ideas. We've checked out loads of caribbean islands and not had much joy, either over our budget or not available in March. Flights would ideally be from Manchester but we're open to anywhere really.
Thanks in advance,
Darren
My friends have just returned from Aruba and they said it was the best of all the caribbean islands they have been too.
if you tried one of the bigger islands there would be more to do, and they do offer excursions like Island Hopping and Shopping. We stayed on Kuramathi, and they had entertainment on every night too. They also have a marine biologist on site who gives lectures and talks. It really is worth going, far nicer than the carribean (which I never thought possible!) and will be gone soon!
Puerta Vallarta on the pacific coast of Mexico is lovely.Much more "Mexican" than Cancun. The weather should be good in March. We went in February a few years ago.I think First Choice are the only company that go at the moment but at least you will have a comfortable flight.
Thanks guys, thats given me a bit to think about. I never knew booking a holiday would be such hard work!
try th Red Sea
It's hot
great swimming snorkel diving
good night life in Sharm especially
It's cheaper than the Caribbean
I'm pretty sure Dazbo's 'done' the Red Sea. Could be wrong though
The Red Sea isn't somewhere I've been to as yet, it is on my list thougth. We did book to go a couple of years ago, to the Azala Gardens I think it was called. I won't mentioned what happened their. Since then, the oldies have been put off going. Not a bad idea though. I've been looking at Angitua today which looks very nice.
Having gone through all our options, we've decided on Puerto Vallarta (thanks Jay Trip) staying at the Golden Crown Paradise. I was a bit concerned about all the spring breakers so this 'adults only' hotel may be a little quieter in that department than the others. It's in a great location, within walking distance of 'downtown' and close to the dive centre which is a bonus. This'll be our first trip to Mexico and to the Pacific Ocean (that's another tick on my list of places to dive!) so great all round. We're going with First Choice, they were always favourite anyway with the star class 767-300's, especially when its a 12 hours flight plus refueling in Sanford, about 13 hours all together! That'll be the 4th time I've been with them in the last 12 months, they're a fine airline. Just need to work out how I'm going to get my camera equipment their now with all the new security restrictions
Thanks again for your inspiration. Only 11 weeks to go!

Hi Dazbo,I am sure you will love it in PV.We went at the end of Feb-beg of March 7years ago and the weather was perfect. Our hotel the Club Playa Del Oro was next to the Marina where the huge cruise ships docked. It was a shock on the first morning when I opened the curtains and saw this huge ship about 50 yards away from the hotel.I am sure your hotel was next to ours and is in lovely area. The buses are an experience and we used them nearly every day to go to the old town. The Mexicans there are the friendliest people I have ever met andIwould love to go back but due to high travel insurance costs now I only holiday in Europe, which is a shame because I promised one of the beach traders selling silver,my husbands beach towel for her son which was a Euro 1986.I never got to give it to her as she wasnt there on the day we left. Its a great time for whale watching in the bay of Banderas.Hope you do a report when you get back.Jay
Thanks Jay. I've seen the photo's of the cruise ships at the marine, they look as big as the hotels! The location of the hotel is definately a draw being close to the amenities, as well as the marine life. With any luck, I'll get to dive with some of the larger ceatures (whale sharks) and see the whales. One of the reasons for going in March Shame you've never got chance to go back.
You will love PV it is the most beautiful place, very mexican compared to Cancun and Riveria Maya, we got Married in Nuevo Vallarta in 2000, it is perfect, go to miss mayloa, and also marina vallarta to swim with dolphins. Tequila is a way of life here anytime of day!!
We stayed at the Sierra Nuevo Vallarta hotel, but visited puerto vallarta toen frequently both day and night and on public transport!!!
Enjoy

Next time think about a Caribbean cruise- you have a 5star floating hotel,it will take you to numerous islands where you can snorkel.dive/do all the beach things, without unpacking or parking the car and you can find so many things to do onboard there are not enough hours in the day. A cruise can be as hectic or relaxed as you want it to be. If you have people who like a quiet time then there is nothing more peaceful than sitting by the pool watching the ocean go by. Princess just had some really great deals (Caribbean Odyssey a 14night from UK under 1000 pounds each) from the UK on Caribbean Princess- a fabulous ship.
Have you considered one of the "SecretsResorts" These are really beautiful and all-inclusive which is not your typical buffet restaurants and local brand drinks here. They have several restaurants which are a la carte as well as bufet and top brand drinks too. They have resorts in Mexico and Dom. Republic. They are Secrets Capri and secrets Punta cana. They are also in the process of opening 2 new resorts in Mexico-Secrets Maroma and cannot remember the name of the other one. Also the resort- Excellence Riviera Cancun used to belong to Secrets Resorts but has been taken over by someone else. This resort is absolutely beautiful and so much to do. You really should go on to the Secrets Resorts website for more info. I think you will be impressed.
