Hi mate, if you like eating out then Sliema is for you, there are some very good restaurants in Sliema and also in St Juliens and Valletta serving fresh local sea food aswell as many other local Maltese dishes, Sliema is also very close to Valletta (about 10-15 mins by bus 5 mins by ferry), so if you want to be close to the transport hub then this could be for you, but also bear in mind that there are a number of direct bus services from Sliema that go directly to, or close to many of the popular tourist haunts, ie Mdina, Mosta, St Pauls bay area, 3 Cities, Marsaxlokk, Cirkewwa etc etc, let me know of any info that you may need and I will do my best to help you.

Thank you for your effort guys. Based on the various reviews found on web we are leaning towards Canifor hotel. It's a shame Qawra is not closer to Valletta. :(

I have already found some useful info on transport from the airport to Qawra in another post (http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=457343#457343). Has anyone got any info on the buses going from and to Qawra?

I hope in beginning of September will not be so many tourists around as in August. When do things usually quite down?

That site is very helpful. Thanks.

I wasn't talking so much about local kids - you think I should be? I just don't want to be runover by a horde of shouting Italians wherever I go. :?

Anyway, I think ferragosto is over by then - lucky me.

We certainly will be visiting Gozo. But only for daytrips - because we will be staying at Canifor Hotel (Qawra). We would like to see it all: whole of Malta, Gozo and Comino - will try to squeeze all of that into two weeks.

What do you think, should we maybe better skip something?

skip Malta is the short answer, and spend as long as poss in Gozo !

what are your interests ?

sunbathing, archaeology, walking, diving etc, etc??

As we don't have an option of booking a hotel in Gozo (travel agencies in Slovenia have less then 10 different hotels in that region to choose from - all of them on Malta). And of those 10 only 3 options are available in current last minute offers. :(
We have a wide range of interests - hope to do some hiking, swimming, snorkeling, see some history sights and museums, also enjoy local cousine and try a glass (or three) of local wines.
We certainly won't be staying in a hotel all day long, nor do we intend to get all crispy on the beaches. I think we'll get enough sun just wandering around.

Gozo Mark with all due respect what on earth do you have against Malta???? You never seem to say anything positive about the island except for Gozo. As a permanent resident on Gozo you should know better than to say Skip Malta!!!!!!

Malta has alot going for it - I just prefer Gozo, and if someone is coming on holiday for 1 or 2 weeks, I personally would recommend they spend most of that time in Gozo - I find alot of Malta polluted and over-run with cars, and alot of the resorts are building sites. In previous posts I've recommended people to visit many places in Malta like the hypogeum and Mdina
I was also asked "We would like to see it all: whole of Malta, Gozo and Comino - will try to squeeze all of that into two weeks. What do you think, should we maybe better skip something?" - so I replied skip Malta - simple answer to simple question
"As a permanent resident on Gozo you should know better than to say Skip Malta!!!!!!" - perhaps as a permanent resident of Gozo I do know better, and thats why I say it !

Hi Mr_Sneaky,
How about a compromise? There is no reason why you cannot also stay on Gozo for a day or two while you are staying at the Canifor.
All you need to do is have a look on the internet for some Gozo hotels and make a note of the telephone numbers of the ones you prefer. When you are in Qawra should you decide you would like to stay over on Gozo, you just need to phone to see if they have a room available.
The Grand Hotel is close to the harbour and there are some nice bars and restaurants in the area.

You said you would like to do some snorkelling - this hotel is in an ideal seafront position.

You will have a "Two Island Holiday" allowing you a bit more time to explore Gozo.
Don't forget to also bring a smaller overnight bag with you.
