Hi,
I want to go to Tunisia at the end of April as weather seems fab. The only problem is I can not work out which hotel to go to.
The hotel Thalassa 4*+ seems good value for money but lots of bad reviews.
The hotel royal azur 5* seems good value for money and is a 5* but lots of bad reviews
The RIU Palace Oceana 5* seems good value for money and is a 5* but lots of bad reviews.
The Phenicia Hotel 4* AI seems good value and on the whole has good reviews.
Can you please recommend what you think are the best hotels in Tunisis, it can be just the name of the hotel and a short comment and it will help me to make my mind up.
Thanks
James
Hotel reviews are useful as they give a picture of the facilities and the area round the hotel, but they are, by their very nature, dependent on the expectations of the people staying there, and we all have different expectations. Some reviews are so consistently bad that one does need to take them seriously, but for those hotels which have mixed reviews, if the facilities available are those which are important to you, and it is in an area where you feel you will be happy, I would just take the plunge. I doubt you will be disappointed. I hope you have a super holiday - the weather is warming up nicely now - I'm off in 9 days and can hrdly wait.
We stayed at the Golf Residence in PEK, For a value for money hotel you have to go 5 star i think, And pay alot more. The hotel is well located with only about 10 min walk to the beach, And only a few min walk to the shops. A nice water park right next door, Which opens in May. And the staff were realy realy nice and helpful, The entertainment was good also. All the rooms and lobby well all the hotel and its grounds and the indoor pool were spotless. Cant go wrong i dont think. We are going back anyway, So it cant be that bad.
I've stayed once at the Phenicia (though not on AI) and plan to book the Royal Azur for my trip at the end of April/ beginning of May.
The Phenicia is a lovely hotel - a couple of years ago it was totally refurbished so is modern with nice bright rooms. The food was great and the staff friendly.
I've not stayed at the Royal Azur before but have stayed twice at the Bel Azur and once at the Sol (part of the same complex) and found both of these very good. The decor seems a little dated but this seems to be the worst I can say about them! In talking to some people you do wonder exactly what they're expecting - one couple we met who were staying at the Royal Azur grumbled at length because there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room!!
Can''t help regarding the other hotels you mentioned, but think you'll be fine at the Phenicia or Royal. At the Royal you have the advantage that you can use the facilities at the other hotels in the complex.
Hope this helps

I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending the Thalassa at Skanes . we have just returned from a superb 10 days there with our three teenage daughters. From my reading of the reviews before we went , the majority of people rated it very highly but maybe the location lets it down . But you have to bear in mind that Skanes in general is just a line of hotels and not a lot else. Saying that the local towns of Monastir and Sousse are only a short taxi or train ride away should you wish to browse the shops!
However the Thalassa is by far the grandest and nicest looking in the whole area . We found the staff to be fantastic and friendly. They could sometimes be over enthusiastic about us joining in activities but if we weren't in the mood then they left us alone. The food was quite superb with an enormous selection to suit any requirement for breakfast and dinner. The Thalassa is not suited to people who want a noisy nightlife but The entertainments team worked hard to provide a good ( if sometimes a bit cheesy )variety of shows. we booked through Thomson Platinum and could only go in school holidays so paid peak prices but the prices for staying at the Thalassa in May are incredible value. . any more info or questions ,I'd be happy to answer them. Hope this helps you decide . Have a great holiday , Tunisia is great !
