Having googled, trawled through reviews and read whatever I can find on various hotels I am now totally confused - so many of the reports are conflicting.
These are the main criteria:
Clean, friendly, comfortable but not necessarily opulent 4/5*
Not overun with children
Easy access to facilities/places outside the hotel without taxis
On good beach
Not too long a transfer time from Monastir
The probable choices are:
El Hana Palace, P E K
Hasdrubal Thalassa & Spa, Port el Kantaoui
Sheraton, Hammamet
Mahdia Palace
Any comments about these hotels would be welcome as I'm hoping to book very soon.
Thanks, Caro
Hi what do you mean by(Easy access to facilities/places outside the hotel without taxis )
Looking at what you're summing up I wouldn't recommend Madhia, it's a beautiful small town about an hours drive from Monastir with a gorgeous beach but very quiet since it's a town still in development (tourist wise) there is no boulevard where you can wonder around at night and go for drinks or shopping. Weekly highlight is the fridaymorning market.
I think you'd be more happy in PEK or Hammamet (allthough Hammamet has a longer tranfer time from the airport), all the things you listed are available there. If you choose PEK don't go to El Hana, it can use some renovation.
Tej Marhaba is ok and aswell as Kanta, also Hasdrubal is a good option.
I hope you enjoy your stay in this lovely country
Hi Caro We are going to the Hotel Kanta PEK on the 20th august for 2 weeks. I will post a review of the hotel and surrounding area when we get back but most of the reviews i've read so far all sound just what your looking for. Hope this helps.
PEK is good but touristy. Hotelwise I ve heard nice things about all the hotels in PEK except for el hana. A couple i know booked in there and transfered on the second day to the Kanta. Something to do with faulty eletricity in their room. but then I ve heard people say they love it as well so I wouldn t get too worked up over hotel reviews (unless they are all bad).
I saw the insides and outsides of the Kanta (where I stayed), marhaba palace, green Riu park hotel and hannibal Palace. they all look great and have good location near the Marina. The Green Riu park next door to marhaba looked really nice and right on the beach. You do not see alot of children in most of the hotels. they tend to be more couples hotels. I am sure if you go 4/5 star you can t go wrong.
Kilted warrior - what I mean by easy access is being able to leave the hotel and be within walking distance of maybe a couple of shops, restaurants or bars. I know Hannibal Palace fills this criteria as I 've stayed there but I found the rooms dirty, drab and depressing and the service poor - also don't think you should have to pay for sunbeds at a so called 5* hotel! The Royal Miramar Thalasso in Skanes was a lovely hotel but apart from a small shop outside you were miles from anywhere and needed to take a taxi to go to either Sousse or PEK if you wanted to leave the hotel complex.
Paula, Enjoy your time at the Kanta - walked through the hotel just to be nosy couple of years back and it looked really comfortable.
Was hoping to book this weekend to leave Bank Holilday Weekend but probably won't get away quite that soon - my husband has had the house upside down looking for his passport!!!!! Unfortunately its unlikely he'll get the opportunity to go to UKPA for 1 week fast track passport....
Caro
Caro/ All users. If in need of a very quick passport (sameday) The only place in the UK that can do a sameday passport is Belfast. Have been told this just the other day by a friend who was over on buisness. Got chating to a couple who had came over on the boat to Belfast to get a quick passport. They had turned it into a shopping/overnight stay.
Hi, thanks for the tip but when I looked at the passport website yesterday same day service is not available for lost or stolen passports.
Without going too much off topic we're flying out of Humberside for the first time - Briar, I sure you know this airport are there the usual shops there? Thanks, Caro
