I'd recommend Torreblanca. Only a 15 minute drive from the airport and close to Los Boliches, Fuengirola and Benalmadina.
There are bucket loads of bars/restaurants in the area and the public transport around there is excellent if you dont wish to hire a car.

Is that where the big posh hotel is that does shows on a night and has a casino?

It's about two minutes past the big posh hotel. The hotel you refer to is in Torrequebrada which is slap in the middle of Fuengirola and Benalmadina. I wouldn't recommend stopping in Torrequebrada as besides a posh hotel, a petrol station and a golf course there's not much there really.

Hi Almac

We have just returned from Malaga on the new Monarch flights from Aberdeen.

When we went out last Friday, flight was delayed to 9pm, due to bad weather in Manchester, which meant we arrived in Malaga at around 1.15am (Spanish time). As we were staying in the Benal Beach Apartments in Benalmadena it took around 20 minutes to get there. Flight home was only about half an hour late in getting into Aberdeen.

We hope that Monarch do keep the flights going in the future as we intend to go back next New Year as well, we would definately go back but this time we would stay nearer the Marina at Benalmadena as we found on New Year's Eve there was not a lot of entertainment on out at the Benal Beach end, even went up to Bonanza Square and it was pretty quiet as well.

Weather was great, during the day between 21C to 23C but it did get chilly at night, but certainly not in the same league as a night out in Union St, Aberdeen.

Thanks for the replies. I need to do some research into this and get the flights booked for next New Year when they become available. 8)

I would recommend Nerja. As Wizard has said the climate along that stretch isby far the best (I know because I live there). It's often nice and sunny, while the area to the West of Malaga has clouds and rain.
Torrox and Torre del Mar may be a little too quiet , but there is still some life in Nerja at that time of year.
For New Years Eve, the Balcon is the place to be with fireworks, music, dancing and a great atmosphere. Most of the restaurants put on a special menu, which can be quite expensive, but as a family of 5, we've found the best value is to go to a Chinese. The prices are reasonable and they tend to give out party hats, favours etc, and of course a bag of grapes for midnight.
