It was all very sudden and with the cause unknown it is unlikely the funeral will be before the 19th. My friends have assured me it is ok to go away and enjoy myself but I would like to keep in contact with them. I will make sure to raise a glass to my friend when Im in Tunisia :)

Aha, back to the topic.
If it were not enough to visit Majorca in April, Moldova in Jan, March, April and again in June, we are now thinking of resuming our "driving to Tunisia" in September. Just checked out the prices and for me and the wife to travel there, without the children (both over 18 when we go), the trip comes in at under £2,000, very tempting, that would be for a 2-3 week trip.
So, I just started prepping the new Land Rover, and if we can raise the money we'll be going.
So, we drive across France to Marsielle, take the ferry, arrive Tunis, La Goulette, drive to Djerba, stay a couple of nights, then across to Douz, Kebili and then the desert. Probably Naceur will take us on a short trek into the desert to a "new" oasis as Ksar Ghilane is too commercial now that the road is surfaced.
So, watch this space! Ha ha. Yeeeees!

Well done Kevin - I knew you wouldn't be able to stay away for long. I'll be back on 10th October for a couple of weeks so if you find yourself anywhere near Sousse, or even Tunis, at that time just let me know.

Hi to you too Jimmy. Looking forward to being back in Sousse in October and already looking at prices for next April, when I know you and Anne hope to be out in PEK but at present they are all quite high so will wait until (hopefully) they drop.

Hi Ottoman-Empire, Welcome to Holiday Truths. I've been going to Sousse twice a year for the past ten years but never in the height of the summer as it's a bit too hot for me then. I see you will be staying at the El Hana Beach, where I've stayed a couple of times. It used to be half board but now they have the All Inclusive option and when we called in there in April for a drink we were only allowed to use the American Bar as everywhere else was AI. You can of course get alcohol in the hotels but Magasin General is the best supermarket for it. There is one not far from the hotel and another in Port El Kantaoui just to the right of the arch. Imported spirits are prohibitively expensive so take in your full duty free allowance. I'm sure someone else will be able to give you a better idea of specific prices, depending on your tipple.

Who wants to go on holiday and get "tanked" up with booze? :duh :duh :D Aslemma, be ashamed. :tup

The fact that I've never wanted or needed to get tanked up with booze is one of the main reasons why I've never gone All Inclusive on holiday. I do enjoy a drink, especially the Magon or Vieux Magon red wine, or my beloved Cedratine, but the amount I drink isn't enough to justify going AI, particularly when I'm often not in the hotel for meals either.

Me too  You will need to take me out for some good wine at the next ex-pats lunch in April Pat? :cheers
The AL drink is not to my taste, as you know. :cry

I'll be back in Sousse for a couple of weeks from 10th October. Just changed my hotel from El Hana Beach to Royal Salem.

My wife surprised me by booking 2 weeks in PEK for end of October.
We tried to meet up with Aslemma but prices were a bit steep. :( (£200 cheaper each if we went 26th Oct.)
Although we will be able to have lunch with some lovely people we met last time at the ex-pats meeting.
Lets hope the weather will be kind to us all.
Still looking to return in April next year.

You can't keep avoiding me Jimmy.:rofl Unless you are there at the very beginning of April we'll miss each other yet again as my flights are booked from 18th March until 2nd April next year to tie in with a possible onward flight to Cairo. Anyway, hope you and Anne have a wonderful time and I've placed a firm order for beautiful weather for all of us.

What makes you think I'm trying to avoid you Pat? :que
Not intentional, i assure you.
Looking at the bus trips for the London shows for Christmas.

We normally visit Egypt early in the year so you never know Pat.
I might creep up on you somewhere. :rofl
