WiFi internet in Candolim ?

Apologies if this should be in the expat forum but I thought I might get a faster response in here

Well - am planning on 5 to 6 months in Candolim this winter - a getaway from bleak, frozen, wet, windy etc etc England - but - I want to keep in touch with people back home and more importantly sort out my banking online...and I also have to be able to sort my dear old Mum's banking out too.

..so, I don't really want to use an internet cafe, I'd rather take my lappy with me and use that...security conscious..leave no traces on public machines..

Does anyone know of any Candolim broadband WiFi points ? or failing that, any internet places that will let you plug your own pc into their service ?

I'm sure someone on here will be able to give you more help, but I definitely saw a sign for a place offering WiFi in Calangute.

Wi Fi

Hi-there are no wi-fi areas in Calangute, took my laptop but had to end up using internet cafes. Apple Corner opposite Hotel Fidalgo in Panjim is wi fi - and free. Its a bit of a treck though and expensive on taxis. The other one that I heard of was Holiday Inn, Mobor Beach, Cavelossim,Salcete. Everybody I saw using Laptops were using them in conjunction with their mobile phones. Another thing is good to take a surge protector with you as I met a couple of people and their Laptops had died. !!!!!!!!-

. just charging them up. I took a Surge protec tor from Asda - it has 4 sockets - It cost about £7.00. it was adequate but I am sure you could buy one there that would maybe safer. Hope this is a bit of a help.

Thanks pudd4, that's a good point - had plenty of showers and shaves in total darkness last time I was in Goa !

Will check Asda this weekend !

re the advertised wifi or not - the internet places I went in Candolim all had big boards outside promoting broadband access - when you actually got in there it was snail's pace dialup ! (Ah, India lol)

Did you ask about using your lappy on their connection ?

Nope Ontour1 , never got round to that. But Calangute has definately got broadband now and fairly quick too :lol:

I know someone out there who uses bluetooth through their Airtel simcard, apparently it costs 5 roops per 24 hrs, it's worth getting registered for a local sim anyway if you are out there long term.
