Yes I agree we have a beautiful coastline and some lovely scenery here in the Uk- non more so than in Wales where we live. However, a summer holiday to me (and everybody's different I know) is never ending sunshine and although the weather abroad can't be guaranteed, there's a lot more chance of a warm summer there (if you research correctly) than in the UK.
As I live right on the South West coast of Wales, we often travel for days out to the beach etc, so wouldn't see the point of paying for accomodation when I can be home and in my own bed after a good day out. Especially as we can wait and see what the weather's doing before we decide where to go.
I agree that with the way prices have crept up all over Europe, that eating out in the UK isn't the main issue.
Our pattern of holidays has changed quite a bit. We always holidayed here until the early 90's and then decided to go abroad. It's this last couple of years we have been attracted back to our own shores. Even though we still have one week abroad it is usually somewhere with stunning scenery and quiet - hence Croatia in September!

Actually the last couple of times we have been to Cornwall the weather has been lovely.
You can get bad weather abroad too - sun is not always guaranteed.
It doesn't take longer to drive to Cornwall if there are no flights operating or you have some serious delays!!

Good for you
We used to really enjoy flying to the sun, but the low cost airline booking process and silly restrictions and charges and the airport experience when it is booked is now so painful it puts us off!
Cruising the Ffjords sound wonderfully relaxing and the scenery will be spectacular.
I agree with you re the whole airport experience. We used to enjoy it too but now find it a bit of a hassle - think it is something to do with getting older!! I also hate the low cost airline free for all boarding procedure - brings out the worst in people. Going to Croatia in September but have booked a package with Thomson - first package holiday for 6 years - I'm sure we will notice some changes!

I also think financially, the way the £ has fallen against the Euro makes it probably cheaper to stop here these days.
Just what I was wondering... will more people stay in the UK? I for one am. Went to Ireland last year (by plane), but staying closer to home this time.
Most people have already forgotten about last weeks "event", now the dust has indeed settled and are back and traveling booking and planning trips as normal.
In all honesty does the fact that people still flew after the most tragic, surreal and unbelievable events of 9/11 not give the clue that life goes on ??
