I've just came back from my holiday in Florida booked via Thomas cook.
We where given all the contact details before we left but when we arrive at the address to collect keys for villa there was no envelope for us. The office where we had to collect keys was closed, but there was some contact details on door which we called, there was no answer on one of the numbers and the 24hr help line number just gave us a number which didn't work.
I managed to find somebody in the next shop who let me use his computer to find a contact number for thomas cook uk. after an hour of trying we managed to get somebody at thomas cook but due time time difference there was nothing the could do and told me to find hotel for night and kept receipt and there would refund me.
My question is can I expect them to pay for my phone calls of around £40 + hotel room
Can I also claim for the loss of 1 nights villa hire.

You would be entitled to all costs on top of what you paid TC for the holiday plus a bit for the wasted time on the first day but you may be pushing your luck asking for the first night villa cost to be refunded as well as the hotel. How easy is it to get the phone charges documented? I think they will pay out but expect them to argue a bit at first, it's just part of their genetic make up!
they have my complaint and I have to give time for them to carry out an investigation they have said this would take around 28 days. So I have to give them until start of Sept I will keep you posted of any outcome

Sorry I've taken soo long to reply but Thomas cook offer me my money back for hotel costs or a voucher worth more which I was happy with. They refused (at first) to refund my phone costs until I gave proof of my bill which i sent and the sent me cheque for my costs
