Hia Shell, sadly no advice on yasmine beach hotel, we stayed in Sousse, last yr, like you we had never been to Tunisia, had only been to Spain, I found it was a lot different to Spain, eg, so cheap, no loud boisterous groups, and a lot more relaxing pace. The hotel we stayed in did have the mino disco for kids, and family entertainment, the animation teams over there as far as I can make out work their socks of (I know they did in our hotel)
I personally would definatly go back to Tunisia, but what I found reading reviews, is Tunisia is either a place you will love or hate.
Hope you find Tunisia as nice as we did :)

Hi ShelBarlow,

I went to Yasmine Hammamet last September and LOVED it!
The beach is lovely and most of the hotels have their own private space in the beach once you show them your hotel key / tag. :sun2

There are loads of restaurants and bars and although I dont have any kids, most places did cater for them.

There is a medina there which is fantastic! You will get men shouting at you asking for you to see their stall or shop but after a while you get use to it. One night me and my partner went in to the medina and there was a snake charmer there and baby lions and tigers (all very safe I must add)! Oh and a camel always seemed to be around too!

We did a trip to Fruigia Park which is an amazing zoo. Im 25 and I loved it! Its only a 15 mins drive from Yasmine. The animals were not caged, although all had their sections so it was perfectly safe and managed. Be careful with the prices as we haggled the taxi driver and paid ourselves in to the park - worked out about £15 for the day trip whereas the tour op had it for about £15 each! Oh and remember to ask the cab driver to pick you back up after say 2 or 3 hours as otherwise you will find it hard getting back to the hotel.

We booked the holiday DIY but there seems to be tour operators for every hotel in the area. They will have a list of day trips, places to go, bars, restaurants etc.

I didnt see any discos for kids as such, but as I said the bars and restaurants there do cater for kids and there seemed plenty of kids around to enjoy the evenings.

I found it very cheap out there - a meal for 2 was never more than £15 with a bottle of wine. So if you plan the extra cash Im sure there will be many trips and activities you can do as a family.

Hope you have a fantastic holiday! :cheers

Hi,

In high season there is sometimes entertainment in Yasmine Medina, assuming they still do this. My last trip during summer high season was 2006, so maybe someone who went last year could confirm if they continued this. I remember a folklore show among other things. You'll pay a nominal charge (about 1 or 2 TND)to get into the medina in the evening, but the ticket either includes or is redeemable against a drink (I don't remember which). There are also cafes, bars, restaurants etc in the medina as well as a couple of clubs.

Also, if your hotel doesn't have entertainment you want to watch, you can go to any of the other hotels (poss not the all inc) and taxis in Hammamet are cheap, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding things to do or getting to them.

A.x

Hi Shel

Sorry - haven't stayed at your hotel, but generally I've found the entertainment quite lame in the ones I have. Most hotels have entertainment (animation) teams who offer daytime activies to adults and children and put on bingo, mini-discos and 'shows' at night. They do work their socks off for a pittance, but to be frank, it's often not as 'professional' as the entertainment you'd get in the majority of Spanish resorts, and it's not to everyone's taste. Some of the hotels buy-in some acts which are of a better standard, but only once or twice a week. I'd say that children are actually better catered for than adults in relation to entertainment in Tunisia, so they'll have a great time even if you don't!!! :)

When we were there, neither of us had any problems with the food. There are a lot of places offering Italian food - pizzas and pastas - which was fine for us so we just looked around and chose places that looked comfortable for us.

We only had breakfast in the hotel one morning and to be honest it wasnt for us - Im more of a cereal and toast person and as we turned up late, all I could find was some pastries so we had those with juice and then left. This isnt to say breakfast wasnt any good as it may have been if we turned up on time! And remember every hotel is different.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes along the main road (of the medina) and then there is a further selection of restaurants along the beach front. We found an amazing Mexican restaurant along the beach which I really do reccommend. Easy food, tasted great and great price too! There was a cafe also on the medina road - near the theme park - and they were great for lunches. This cafe always seemed busy so thats a good sign from the start!

I honestly wouldnt worry about the food, just take care as you would anywhere else. If it doesnt look right, then dont eat it! :tup

Sounds great !!
But we have paid for an all inclusive because in our past holidays we always spend so much money on food so we thought we would try all inclusive to save us on the pennies so was hoping to just eat in the hotel ?
we have paid 3.800 for 3 kids and 2 adults for 2 weeks. I just hope its worth the money :cheers
7 weeks to go :fly

Hi Scoobydoo,

I was in Hammamet in October, and we had a drive around Yasmine one evening to see what was there. I was pleasantly surprised as there are now so many more bars and restaurants etc. (I remember when Yasmine was 3 hotels and a building site!). I think there is entertainment by way of clubs and a casino in the medina.

If you don't find what you're looking for in Yasmine you could try south Hammamet, which will only be a few dinar in a taxi. There are several disco bars, plus a couple of clubs. I like Havana, a late bar with mainly Latin music. The last couple of years have definitely seen more clubs and bars open, but they seem to change name and location fairly frequently!

Places aimed at British tourists include Shakespeare's (run by the same management as the once popular but now closed Cheers Bar), and the unimaginatively named British Bar. Be warned though - British Bar, British prices!

I've been to Hammamet once over New Year and a couple of times in winter, and far as nightlife is concerned it's worth going late as at 9 or 10pm you could well be the only people in the bar!
