Hi all, when Mrs Sliema2 and I paid a very pleasant visit to Zebbug a few weeks ago we noticed that a lot of the little windy streets behind St Philips Church had distinctly Italian street names, could anyone please tell us why ?.

don't have any info on the italian street names, but when the normans settled in malta, the mostly settled in zebbug, that is why if you look closely, there is a large percentage of people from zebbug have blue eyes.

Hi Alan, is that why a lot of the villagers are called Norman or Norma ? .

Grazzi Hafna Alan, inti ukoll xih habib, you are of course very right lots of them are called Phillip, I know for certain that Phillip is called Phillip as is Philip, so is Phil and Phillip but Phillipa isn't.
Yes and my wife is called Brian.
What a coincidence, my Uncle Samantha was called Brian.
but back to Sliema2's original question. I have never taken much notice of the Italian sounding street names in Zebbug, but could it be because Filippu was from Catania in Sicily?

Have read a lot of the books about Malta during the war and a lot of the street names in Valletta were Italian but they were renamed when Italy went to war on Malta..
