What you see is not what you get.
I booked a nights stay at the Radisson Blu in Sydney via: Destinia. I'm not inexperienced at booking accommodation online and to date have had no reason to ever complain. That all changed with this booking. In good faith I proceeded with all the necessary and prerequisite details (name/address and credit card details) . At the conclusion of making the booking I received an email which I naturally assumed would simply be a confirmation. That wasn't to be, instead it advised the booking was subject to confirmation from Radisson Blu and would take 24 hrs.
I immediately checked my credit card and found the total accommodation amount had been debited. Email exchanges with Destinia, albeit polite, we're ineffective in confirming my booking as firm. Instead they advised they were awaiting a response from Raddison Blu and they were unable to confirm.
WHAT!! To cut a long story short I wasn't about to place myself in the position of:
1. Possibly being duped by this Destinia organisation who had suspiciously ineffective booking protocols; and
2. Contact my bank and request they reverse the debit before payment finalisation occurred.
My final email to Destinia requested they confirm my booking by Noon (post 24hrs elapsing). I didn't hear from them. I also spoke with reservations at Radisson Blu who confirmed no booking receipt received from Destinia.
My bank is in the process of reversing the payment and although I had to make another booking with a better known and proven reputable accommodation intermediary at a slightly increased rate (due to time lapse) I'm grateful I didn't loose my money as I strongly suspect I would have.
Suffice to say, I would not recommend nor ever again use Destinia as an intermediary booking agent.
