Lack of light in the rooms

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at the hotel as part of a coach package holiday.

I agree with the criticism that there is no choice for evening meals but I found the meals tasty and filling. Soup for starters, then meat, potato in some form or another and then one serving of vegetable, carrots one night, green beans another, peas another etc. The deserts were usually icecream one evening, mousse the next etc. I had no complaints and the waiter, a nice friendly smiley guy came round with offers of seconds. It filled me up, I enjoyed it so what more could I ask?

There were 3 nights free bar from 8.30 to midnight. A few people have complained about a miserable barman. I do hope they were not complaining about the barman wearing glasses. He was lovely. He did'nt have time for small talk, the guy was run off his feet! If he had have been chatty and talkative, I would have been annoyed that precious minutes were being wasted gabbing to patrons instead of being used to serve the drinks.

The room was hardly 5*, the sink was cracked and there was a burn hole in the net curtain. Did this have a detrimental impact on my stay there? Absolutely not.

I take into account the star rating of the hotel and the value of money. As part of the package we went out on 2 day trips to Bruges and Ypres.

My only serious criticism is the lack of light in the rooms. I had the worst difficulty in finding enough light to put my make up on. Having stayed there before, I knew enough to take a lighted mirror. Also take a travel kettle and tea bags and/or coffee. The hotel is minutes from bars. There are loads of them and they rock!

3rd visit to the hotel
13 years 10 months ago
Just returned from our 3rd visit to this hotel. Once again I found the hotel cleanliness to be fine.

Food was the same as we've had before i.e. 3 courses that are served at your table by friendly staff.

Location is excellent with bars, restaurants and shops all within easy walking distance as is the train station.

Staff were fine - no complaints at all. There was a different barman on this trip who was friendly without being intrusive. We were a party of 4 and each of us was given a different glass for our drinks so he knew what each of us required.

Entertainment - there wasn't any this year but music was played by the barman in the bar.

This hotel was SO HOT!
14 years 1 month ago
We've just returned again from this hotel after our visit earlier this year.

I went with 2 of my friends and we had a family room. Previously we'd been given a brilliant room at the front of the hotel, this time our room was in the centre of the hotel.

The room was smaller, the only view we had was of the dome of the indoor swimming pool. The window was small and only partly opened. The room was stiflingly hot so we kept the window open during the whole of our stay.

I'd put my coat on top of the wardrobe and when I retrieved it a cloud of dust nearly fell onto my friends head. My bed sheet had a couple of holes, but the general cleanliness of the room was good. We had clean towels every day without us having to put them into the bath to be exchanged.

Food was acceptable, it's nothing flash but you won't go hungry. While we were there they had the Christmas decorations up. Christmas Eve was 'celebrated' with a cracker, and the proud display of the turkey being paraded round the dining room. This turkey was accompanied by potatoes and 1 veg which was a tad disappointing after the 'show'.

Entertainment was a disco in the dining room one evening which was more for the older generation as they played 'Hang down your head Tom Dooley' etc. However we managed some Lady Gaga after the older ones had departed to bed one night in the smaller lounge.

I must stress how hot the hotel was during our stay. We'd taken warm clothing due to trips out and the time of year, however a T Shirt or thin shirt would have been more fitting within the hotel. We had to ask the barman to put the aircon on in the smaller lounge as we couldn't cope with the stifling heat. The hotel was definitely hotter than it was in February when there was snow!

The staff were pleasant and we didn't have any problems. We would visit again as we only had a couple of minor gripes.

Returned last night from a 4 night stay at this hotel with National Holidays. We travelled by coach with a 7.30am start. The journey outbound was fine without any problems. I wasn't looking forward to a long journey on the coach but it wasn't too bad (maybe a bit more leg room needed as I'm tall!)

Onto the hotel.

Location:-

The hotel is ideally located with the beach being a very short walk away (we could see the sea, side view on, from our balcony) and near to the bars and restaurants. There was work being done to the pavement outside the hotel, but further down to-wards the road so it wasn't too bad. Nearly finished anyway. (There was quite a bit of renovation going on in the area).

Cleanliness:-

We didn't have any problems with the cleanliness within the hotel anywhere.

Rooms:-

We had a lovely room at the front of the hotel with a small balcony (ideal for keeping our food fresh as it was -4deg when we were there). There was 3 beds, 2 small tables, (each having 2 chairs). Ample wardrobe space with mirrored fronts. Separate toilet, bathroom with bath and overhead shower, sink. Hairdryer (my friend said it didn't work too well on her thick hair) No bidet though. Also take travel kettle as there wasn't one provided. TV with BBC & MTV.

Food:-

We were half board and the food was fine. Soup, main course & dessert. Breakfast was toast, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, cereals etc. The waiting staff were lovely (we had a young girl who was always smiling).

Bar:-

Bar is quite small, but there wasn't too many of us staying at the time so it wasn't too bad getting served. The barman could have been a little more friendly but he worked long hours doing various jobs so will let him off....

There's also a little room where there's entertainment (keyboard player when we popped our heads in so we went back to the bar!.

All in all we had a really enjoyable stay which was enhanced by the great people we met (you'll know who you are if you stayed 8th to 12th Feb 2010 with National Hols)
