stayed in the kilabalu club seaview room and upgraded to the club package which included breakfast served in the club lounge, unlimited hot and soft drinks in the club lounge all day, afternoon tea and cakes, and 5pm to 7pm cocktail hour in the club lounge, this included free bar and canapes. everything about the hotel is perfect from the grounds, staff, rooms. would recommend the club package good value for money. there was entertainment of singers in the lounge bar, and also a show at the beach bar on a few nights. would highly recommend this hotel to everybody and would definately visit again.

This is a truly fabulous hotel in a stunning location about 15 minutes from Kota Kinabalu airport. All the rooms have either a balcony or if on the ground floor a patio, with a table and two chairs.
All rooms are en-suite with a bath tub and a large walk-in shower.
Other facilities in the room include an iron, ironing board, hairdryer, tv with satellite channels (and speakers in the bathroom) a fridge/mini bar, mosquito machine (didn't need it), telephone (and one next to the toilet!). There is ample wardrobe space (including a safe inside the wardrobe), plenty of drawers, a seating area with an armchair and settee, a desk with chair, and a dressing table.

This is a continuation of the above report.
There are 5 restaurants to choose from:
Garden Terrace - we had breakfast here each day, this is buffet style and has a wide variety of food from hot dishes including chicken sausages (this is a muslim country so no pork or bacon) and curries (for breakfast?) to many varieties of bread, pastries, cakes and cereals, also fresh fruit, fruit salad, yoghurt etc. Teas and coffees are served to your table.
Shang Palace - a Chinese restaurant that we found to be rather expensive and not as good as chinese in the UK. However, it did serve some unusual dishes such as jelly fish.
Peppinos - an Italian restaurant, also expensive but superb food.
Coco Joes - poolside snack bar during the day and open in the evenings for dining under the stars.
Pulau Bayu - only open twice a week serving a mixture of Indian, Chinese and Malayan food, buffet style. There is entertainment here - we saw a mock Malaysian wedding (make sure you get your desserts before the wedding starts as it does go on a bit!)
Forgot to say that there is tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms.
This hotel was recently awarded runner up for Best Foreign Resort Hotel by readers of the Daily Telegraph.

This is a truly excellent hotel although the reception area is open to the outside so it can get a trifle hot when checking in - but who cares! I only noticed it because the local tour rep for Kuoni forgot to collect us from the airport and also forgot to book our room! The hotel were fantastic, staff helpful in the extreme and gave us a lovely room with a great view. It just took 30-40 minutes to sort out the mess which is why we felt a bit hot (and bothered) - 10 out of 10 to the hotel though.
The poolside area was fantastic with little activities such as mahjong lessons, sarong tying & 'in the pool' scuba diving experience for those who cannot sit still!
There was a free shuttle to the main 'town' which had plenty of eating places and a taxi back was dirt cheap. We stayed in the resort and sampled all the restaurants - wasn't disappointed once. Used the hotel excursions and most of our time we had the mini van, driver and guide to ourselves
The Tanjung Aru wing has been recently refurbished and is supposedly fantastic, I wouldn't know as I was too mean to pay the extra. The basic rooms were more than nice enough (easily 4*) unless you are on you honeymoon perhaps. Then you might want to upgrade for something extra special.
If you have booked to stay here I would say "lucky you" and I would definitely stay there again. Having said that, they must press on with the room refurbishment programme as the basic room is probably about 2-3 years away from becoming past their best.

We have visited this hotel four times now and have never once been disappointed.
Many of the staff know us by name and we are always welcomed very warmly. We normally stay in the Horizon rooms in the Tanjung Wing, and were once given a complementary upgrade to a suite, as one was free and we are members of the hotel chain frequent users group.
The hotel has its own marina and for a relatively small sum you can go across to the islands about 10 - 20 minutes away by boat (depends on your choice of the 5 islands). We go for snorkelling and to relax on the great beaches.
Coral is a little worse for wear near the beach, as people tread on it! However, with care and patience it is possible to find some lovely corel and everywhere an abundance of wonderful fish!
As well as the staff being great the rooms are large and comfortable, I won't go into contents but definitely 4/5 star rating. We hope to go again.

My wife and I stayed at the Tanjung Aru for our honeymoon.
I can quite honestly say that it was the best hotel I have ever stayed in (and I am very selective when it comes to hotels).
The staff were quite brilliant, always friendly and eager to please - one tip though, the service is relaxed so order your next drink long before you finish the one you're on!
The in-hotel bank were Al's Trio, an excellent bunch of lads who did every request we asked.
The open plan lounge areas were heaven to relax in while the tropical rain poured down for an hour every evening. Not much of a beach area, but big enough for our needs. We are looking forward to going back for our anniversary in a few years.
Amazing place.
