We have saved hard and been looking forward to our first holiday in two years for several months. The Hotel is under a year old set on swampland within a dense mangrove swamp jungle. Our room was spacious and reasonably clean, drawers were all broken in the room. The Maid did her best to keep the room clean but it always smelt damp and musty. The warning signs were on the wall which were decorated with squashed mosquitos. My wife and I were bitten constantly despite using Tropical quality Jungle insect repellent, however, we were better off than some others who were in a terrible state with the mosquitos.
The staff were always expecting tips, even the person who was cutting up the turkey one night, when asked for another slice, gestured towards his tip bowl. This on an AI holiday, what a cheek! The waiters were ok as long as you tip them otherwise you were ignored. Sometimes they would go out of the way to do something special once you get to know them.
There were regurlarly massive crabs in the reception area, grounds and piano bar. The reception toilets were a disgrace with a smell worthy of transport cafes several years ago. Once on the throne with a great lungful of air you were assaulted at once by the mosquitos lying in wait.
The food quality was on the whole very good and the al a carte resturants were clean with variety to accommodate most likes especially the only Japanese in Cuba.
The entertainment was outside and not really worthy of any mention at all, at least the TV in the room worked although fuzzy on some chanels.

We arrived in Cuba and passed through cutoms, which is an experience in itself after all this is Castro land,
one of the last bastions of communism.
The hotel was quite good although I have stayed in alot better but it was poor for a four star. The mosquitoes were absolouly horrendous. I was bitten from head to foot and of course with this being Cuba and the Hotel being far out.Mosquito repellent and Imodiam are like
gold dust.
You have to remember Cuba is now on its own with the fall of the USSR and the Americans have still
got sanctions on Cuba.
The people are really friendly yet they have nothing.Take plenty of medicine and an open mind.

When booking this hotel we were informed that it was a very friendly family orientated. This was not the case. They did not cater for children of the age of 11 at all. We were told that this was a new hotel and had only been open a short time. I found that very hard to believe as the bathroom had old fittings and black mould in places together with a lot of broken tiles. The rooms were reasonably clean but we were unable to use the any of the draws in either rooms as they were all broken. The pool area's were dirty and the pools were always very murky. However the beach was lovely. However to get a clean table in the restaurant you had to tip. This was also the case in the bar, otherwise you had to wait a very long time to get served. We paid a lot of money to go on this holiday and found it quite unacceptable that you had to tip to get served. Our view is you tip when you get a goog service not to get one. We were told that this was a 4*plus hotel, in our view it should only be rated as a 3 or under.
