We did not travel outside the hotel, unless it was an organised trip.

The resort was generally very clean. The reception and buildings around were alays clean and tidy, but the toilets on the beach were absolutely disgusting, fithy diry and a most dreadful stench. The Chocolate Friends were busy all day and into the night and were wonderful, never a dull moment.there were some good productions on in the theatre but the building itself was not very nice,no air conditioning, very hot,got badly bitten by insects whilst in the theatre, and atmoshere poluted by lots of people smoking so could not stay in the building long.Beach was fantastic, cleaned morning and evening, constantly being checked for litter, lovely thatched beach umbrellas, lots of sunloungers, the water was crystal clear and so inviting. Each morning it was a joy to go to,so neat, tidy and clean.

We never ventured off the resort other than for excursions. But having talked to many guides and reps we discovered that Bayahibe is the best resort in the whole of Republic Dominicana.

What can I say, beach is glorious, golden sands and sparkling water. The staff cleared the beach every day before tourist were down. Plenty of beach loungers and shade.
If you wanted to join in activities you were encouraged but there was no pressure, there were spanish lessons, salsa dancing aqua aerobics and all sorts of competitive and non competitive activities.
Once weekly there is a market in the main buffet restaurant with jewellry, sarongs, cigars etc all pretty good value. You were encouraged to barter.
Only once did we see anyone get out of hand due to too many coctails and that was dealt with discreetly and the person escorted off the beach.
