This was my long-awaited first trip to the West Indies - my husband having visited most of the islands courtesy of the grey funnel line, and we chose this hotel for its spectacular location and were not disappointed. In fact it was so incredibly beautiful that I'm scared to go anywhere else tropical in case it doesn't meet up. We had a sea view villa, not too high up the hillside and within easy walking distance of most things, although we did use the excellent and efficient shuttle if we were going to the Plantation Room Restaurant because it rained quite a bit and was so very dark in the evenings that we kept stumbling around.

The rooms were a little on the tired side, but very large, beautifully maintained and clean and the bathroom was very spacious. We had our own patio with furniture and a plunge pool with jacuzzi and views out to sea. Having taken mosquito coils to use outside, we found it so hot and humid that we rarely sat outside after dark, but did get pretty well nibbled by seemingly invisible mossies that I discovered lurked in the bathroom and swooped on you when you were otherwise engaged. Mosquito repellent for your body a must in future - spray was provided, also an umbrella and a torch - all necessary. The main plantation house was definitely in need of some tlc - there were some spectacular leaks during our stay, and the bar there looked rather mournful. The main reception area (new) and the breakfast area outside the old plantation building were beautiful and you could watch the birds robbing the breakfasts. We did see humming birds in the grounds once we had got our eye in, and lots of other bird life if that floats you boat (it does ours!)
The area around the Pitons is now a world heritage site and the surroundings of the plantation, the walks through the forest, the gardens and the beautiful (but small) white sand beach were all outstanding, as was the incredibly cheerful, friendly and efficient service. No queueing for loungers on beach or pool (although it was fairly quiet and pre-half term when we went) and marvellously attentive service at the erection of the red flag for drinks, snacks, etc. Beach side hut provided copious supplies of towels. The three restaurants worked in rotation and there was plenty of variety and the food was very good, although by the end of the second week we felt we had seen/done most of it. The entertainment was just the right level for us, with a variety of live acts (not too loud) and a steel band once a week. All very tasteful, and the marvellous saxophonist who played on the beach on Saturday evenings while you sat with your feet in the sea sipping champagne was not to be missed.

Hotel was fantastic

The staff were friendly and very helpful we had heard some bad reviews of this hotel prior to going, ignore them all.

The rooms could do with a little updating but they were spotlessly clean and they blended in well with the surroundings

We are looking forward to going back soon
